    jordan dykstra transfer?

i've been hearing some rumors about jordan dyskstra transfering to Wester Christian, which just won the 2a state championship if i'm not mistaken, but i read this on the iowapreps.com message boards and just wondering if any of you guys have heard anything on this. If he does transfer, i think it will be a good chance for him to play some better competition.

Western Christian has been know to be good at recruiting!

They do have a good basketball program but other Lakes Conference schools don't have the recruiting budget they do.

Still not as high of a recruiting budget as Iowa City High has...

I get sick of people accusing private schools of recruiting...maybe they do, but public schools do just as much.

My uncle told me about the time when another high school coach (from a public school) showed up at his door and told him to come play for his team. This was before the days of open enrollment, so he offered to have my uncle live with him for the entire school year so he would be in the district.

I realize this is getting off topic already, but I am just sick of hearing people say private schools recruit when public schools do it just as much.

They do recruit. I've never seen Valley or other public schools have scouts at sporting events. I've seen Dowling guys in the stands though, and there were a few guys at my high school that were recruited to Dowling.

Aside from City High Wrestling, the coaches don'e recruit, even at private schools. The players and parents that know the kids through AAU and other teams do the recruiting, mostly through pressure and the 'wouldn't it be great if...'

    Re: jordan dykstra transfer?

The rumor of the Dykstra transfer is circling in NW IA. WC would not have repeated at the state tournament, if they did not have the transfer of Shawn Keizer from Sioux Center, and people are comparing. WC loses it's point guard and it's center from their team.
RV has not used Dykstra as a center. He is used away from the basket, because he can handle the ball, he has good court sense, he has good vision and passing skills. I believe this is being done to enhance those skills in competition, because his 6'7-6'8" body will not be used in the post at ISU.
RV has very poor guard play, so consequently 6'8" Heimstra is required to bring the ball upcourt 75% of the time. He is not a point guard. Their offensive schemes are difficult to exercise when they have no guard play. Does this sound like my favorite university in 2007/2008?
I personally hope it is rumor only, because what WC needs next year is a center, not a 3 or a 4. I am concerned if he transfers, he will not develop the skills he will really need in D1.
There is no love between WC and the rest of the schools in NW IA. It has very little to do with the athletic success of all the schools. WC plays no better competition than does RV.
Yes, I am a RV and ISU graduate.

MY 3 BROTHERS AND SISTERS WENT TO PRIVATE CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS FROM ELEMENTARY SCHOOL THROUGH HIGH SCHOOL AND 3 OF US WENT TO A CHRISTIAN COLLEGE. PEOPLE FORGET THE COST INVOLVED IN ATTENDING THESE SCHOOLS. MY PARENTS SPENT OVER $300,000 OVER THOSE YEARS TO SEND US TO A CHRISTIAN SCHOOL B/C IT'S SOMETHING THAT THEY FELT WA IMPORTANT. ONE YEAR OF PRIVATE HIGH SCHOOL IS COSTS $4,800 MINIMUM. NO SCHOLARSHIPS, NO FINANCIAL AID NO HELP.

They don't do it just as much. Some public schools recruit as well but private schools do it more often, that is why people say it.

I don't know why it bothers you so much to hear it, its true.

[I SEE YOU MENTIONED SHAWN KEIZER TRANSFERED FROM SIOUX CENTER TO WESTERN CHRISTIAN. YOU FAILED TO MENTION HIS MOTHER GREW UP GOING TO CHRISTIAN SCHOOLS HER WHOLE LIFE. HIS FATHER DID NOT GROW UP IN THE CHRISTIAN SCHOOL SYSTEM. THEY WERE RECENTLY DIVORCED. HIS MOTHER MOVED AND FELT STRONGLY TO GET HER KIDS BACK INTO THE SYSTEM. ]
