    Football Donations: Matching Gift Program

I found this neat little tool. You type in your company and it lets you know if your employer will match your donation.

Bummer, I got all excited because I thought our company only matched donations to the United Way, then I saw this...

Unless ISU gets hit by a Sunami, my company will not be matching gifts anytime soon.

Sweet! 2:1 match ratio, Athletics included. If only I lived close enough to justify season tickets, I could get pretty good ones

Wow, my company matches 1:1 cool, no exception for athletics either. I'll have to look into this.

Re: Football Donations: Matching Gift Program

Is there any way around the stipulation that company's have for not matching athletic donations? I thought there was some discussion about how the payment goes through the ISU Foundation, so it could be possible to keep it on the down low to avoid being caught by the company? Anyone know how to get around this?

Mine is on there, but they exclude gifts to athletics and YES..... they know the ISU Foundation work-around and won't allow it. Darn it!

Re: Football Donations: Matching Gift Program

Well nevermind, looked at my companies policy and they don't match if you receive a material benefit from the organization, ie. football tickets.

Re: Football Donations: Matching Gift Program

Maybe I'm wrong, but my understanding is that matching gifts doesn't actually "double" your donation to the Cyclone Club. If you donate at the Cardinal Level and your company matches the donation, you would still be considered at the Cardinal Level. In other words, you don't get any better seats, the athletic department just gets a higher donation.

    Am I wrong?

That is what I always thought, and what makes the most sense.

I don't see why they would care where the money from. If they get a check from me for $125 and $125 from my employer, I don't see why they wouldn't think of me as a $250 donor.

According to Cyclones.com you are indeed wrong:

"Participation in the corporate matching gifts program is a great way to improve your Cyclone club level and earn additional priority points, while at the same time, increase scholarship support for student athletes."
