    44,112?

I find it hard to believe 44,112 was in attendance. I could believe that figure to be total paid, but it sure didn't look like more than 35000 were in the stands.

    That was the PAID attendance.

You think it looked bad yesterday wait till next game. You have to have a product to sell to. Right now Jamie Pollard has something like Mark Foley to sell.

I'm willing to bet JP breaks out some promotional ticket deal for the KU game. Something like $10 tix or $5 hillsides... You're right, Cyclone football is becoming a tough sell...

    Re: 44,112?

Here is a something I've been thinking about: If tickets to the ISU game were free, how many people would show up for a game, assuming we could seat everyone who wanted a ticket? 50,000. 60,000? 80,000? The reason I ask this is this would indicate our true fan base. People who would show up to cheer on the team. Now, take the difference between that number and the average attendance to our games currently (I'm not sure what our avg. is but let's say 44,000). That difference is the number of people who are not willing to pay to see the product that is currently on the field. The people included in that difference are the people that keep this program from growing. They would show up for free and cheer on the team, so I guess I would call them fans, but they aren't willing to spend the money to do it. How do we get those people to spend money on tickets? If the answer is "a better football team", then Mac is not the person who can solve this problem. If the answer is "those people will never spend money on ISU football", then our program's fanbase is as large as it will ever be.

    Interesting to think about.

    Re: 44,112?

Remember that the cost of the ticket is not the full price of admission. Even discounting gas, if you take into account that going to the football game essentially sacrifices an entire Saturday, a free ticket is still not a zero-cost item.

Yes, it's becoming a tough sell. And next year we're supposed to pay more for tickets when we lose so many players on offense and a few big ones on defense? Riiiiiiiiight.

Yes, exactly my point. If the admission was free, yet a person was willing to still give up time, travel, etc to go to a game; whatever that number is is the max size of our fan base. What do people think that number would be. To me, I think ISU max fan base is something like 70,000 people. I really don't think we could get much more than that to show ... and that is with free admission. So when we are hitting numbers like 45,000 now, how do we realisticly get the other 25,000 to show (assuming we could seat all of them). This is Pollard's challenge.

Good point. I'm not a marketing guy, but JP seems to be a pretty good businessman & marketing guru...

    Re: 44,112?

I think we had around 39k actually there. It was bad.

So was the crap we were forced to watch on the field.

It would be nice if the next time ISU plans to play like that, if the players would come onto the field and announce it. That way we could all go do other stuff.

Like go to the proctologist or something. Maybe that's where everyone else was...

    Re: 44,112?

I'm pretty sure if our team could string together a few years of Big 12 North titles and upsets against much tougher opponents every now and then, we could average 55,000. All it takes is some excitement and the stadium will get packed. If our team could have success, then we can get the bowled in stadium and I would not expect anything less than 60,000 with a good team. If you win, they will come.

Someone once said by the middle of the season, ISU starts to skid and the fans stay in their combines on Saturday afternoon.

    Re: 44,112?

On another thread someone mentioned we are like Cub Fans. I totally disagree. We are better than Cub fans (I'm both so that makes me even better). We have never had success like the Cubs have. We've never won a big game or have made it to the big game, we aren't even recognized nationally. I know comparing the Cubs and Clones is completely different but we are similar. We both have good fans, we like going to games even though we constantly lose. The only thing that makes us different, we have no history.

I think a contradicted myself in my post??? Who cares. I just like talking about the Cubs and Clones in the same paragraph.

    Re: 44,112?

How do you think we broke our attendance records earlier this year? Nobody asked how many of those tickets were purchased.....Pollard gave them away to boy scouts and nursing homes. Not a bad idea if you're not going to sell them, why not make some money off of concessions and gain attendance hype. Pollard's a genious!!
