Are we still waiting 'til the end of the season?

I'm just checking to see if anyone has changed their opinion on Mac.

Many, many, many posters out there said that we need to let the season run its course prior to passing judgment on Mac.

Are we still waiting, or do you have enough evidence to make an informed decision on his capabilities as head coach and leader of our football program?

Is simply firing an assistant or two enough to keep his job?

I'm just curious where we're at.

Keep in mind, we have two very narrow wins against D-1 teams. UNLV and Toledo are now a combined 3-12.

I made an informed decision BEFORE JP was here. But regardless...we still have 4 games left. I still think the same: if we win out & have a GREAT (not medicore GOOD) year next year, DMAC will stay. If we do anything other than that......DMAC SHOULD BE FIRED!

So your decision is partially based on having a GREAT year next year? So, he's back after this year no matter what in your mind? Or only if we run the table. I'm not trying to be a smartass (for once), but am a little confused.

Before JP was here, you made an informed decision based on the information you had at the time. Surely you must admit that there's more information now from which you can base your decision.

Re: Are we still waiting 'til the end of the season?

He cannot go the fire assistant or two route, he has been there done that, and it did not remedy the swoons of the past. The end of last season, and the 14 point spot we give all opposing teams this year are sure signs of being outcoached.
He seems like a really nice guy, he is a great rep of the school, unfortunately, we have not played up to our rather low expectations over the past several years, and this year is already a massive failure.
JP said he fired morgan because he couldn't see him leading the team to the next level. If he can say with a straight face, that he has looked at the results of the last year and a half, and mac is clearly the guy to do it in football, then he loses all credibility and proves he is still a wisc. stooge of alvarez.
Maybe I am wrong, maybe we will run the table, get a decent bowl game, win that, actually attract some recruits worth a crap(other than qb, rb and wr, this afterall is not ps2), open the playbook for good and stop running up the gut on 2nd, 3rd, and 4th and short, and we can keep him forever. That would be great.

I dont think we are being out-coached, but we are being Out-Recruited real bad. Mac is a better coach than recruiter imo. I dont think that we have enough good old fashioned money to recruit well enough, to consistently win in the big 12.

Your are nuts! This staff has proven over and over again they can't outcoach any Big 12 team that has equal or better talent.

I really believe we are totally outmanned. TTech had FAR MORE TALENT on thefield yestrday. As far as thecoaching goes I think it could be better but both of our coordinators have proven they can have success given talent.

Sorry CyBobby, I must disagree. Recruiting is the only thing DMac is good at. He consistently convinces kids to come to Ames, when he has a loosing record, and only one winning Big 12 season. Now, when he gets them on the field, he doesn't know what to do with them.

Did you see the depth of Nebraska's playbook against Texas? They've got a novel with a lot of twists and surprises.

Our playbook is "Fun in the Shotgun with Dick and Jane" with stick figure illustrations.

Totally agree, alzzz. DM has done everything right off the field and as a representative of the university, he is simply not a good game-day coach.

Agreed. You know, we were able to find a good coach for basketball.... does it seem so impossible we'd be able to come up with one for football?

Re: Are we still waiting 'til the end of the season?

I fell off the support Mac Wagon yesterday. I didn't think I would say this, but he has taken us to the summit and we are on the downhill side. The high wasn't too high, but I am afraid of how low the low will be. I loved what he has done, but now I think we all expect more. It will be interesting to see if someone can pick us back up. Was this is good as it gets? I sure hope not.
