Where's the money gonna come from...to can Mac?

    I'm not sold either way....yet.

But where is the money to pay out Mac's contract gonna come from? Keep in mind....

    - We still gotta pay Morgan for a year or two plus McDermott's salary.

    - Our new coach is going to come very expensive if we want somebody worth a poop. (sorry we won't find a bargain)

    - JP already has a large amount spent for some major athletic facility renovations.

So as I look at it even if we wanted to we can't.

Re: Where's the money gonna come from...to can Mac?

As previously discussed, we do not have to pay Dan a lump sum to get rid of him, just his base salary for the remainder of his contract. His base salary is around $450,000/year.

I think we already paid Morgan off, didn't we? Wasn't that what the $1.5 million lump buyout was for?

If JP thinks he can sell 30,000 season tickets next year, he'll keep Mac. If he doesn't, he won't. Purely a business decision. People on this board seem to think that Mac is JP's boy, but he's not. JP has a business to run, and just like if you or I weren't cutting the mustard at our jobs we would get tossed, so would Mac.

Re: Where's the money gonna come from...to can Mac?

Donors will make it happen. Mac's buyout will be around $2 million probably, but if we keep Mac, how many fans will go to games next year, keep donating, etc. Plus I don't think we would have to pay Mac all at once. Base salary every year is paid to him until his contract ends maybe? Not sure.

Don't agree about the new coach either. For instance, Mike Price (not necessarily the right pick, but for the sake of the argument) makes something like $250,000 at UTEP. You don't think he would be interested in ISU for $600,000 to $800,000?

Money talks, and if enough of the fanbase is upset, something will be done no matter what the cost. But if Pollard honestly knows at this point it cant be done this year, he needs to tell the fans.

Hire a coach who has a currently smaller salary and would basically be upgrading so he wouldn't be expecting $3 million a year. Think about it, I'm not sure what coaches at smaller schools get paid, but I would think most get betwen $200-600 thousand. For assistant coaches, the pay raise would be even greater.

Not to mention the prestige that would come along with building a national power at a Big 12 school!

Okay..but 450,000 isn't exactly chump change over the next 3 yrs.

I heard Craig T. Nelson is looking for a job. Imagine a coaching staff consisting of Craig T. Nelson, Dauber, and Luther. Sure our team would still suck ***, but at least I'd enjoy watching it. And even if it didn't work out, we'd have Rick Morainis to fall back on.

It's all about investing and risk reward now, is'n it?

I don't think anyone here would argue or make the case against $450,000 not being chump change. Be that as it may, the facts remain the same .375 is unacceptable. A change needs to be made, the sooner the better. It's never going to get any easier.

Bite the bullet and be done with it.

Finally, some common sense!!! You are exactly right! JP is a businessman first! He has already shown that. Watch & see what he does......

You know those crowds of 50,000 we had for the last 2 home games? All it would take is $9 from each of those tickets for ONE of those games to pay for a whole year of Mac's base salary.

In contrast, what is the lost opportunity income if we keep Mac on and keep pulling 35,000 per game instead? Do the math......

I know there was an announced PAID attendance of 44,000 today, but I would venture a guess that there were around 37,000 in the stands today. That number is going to steadily drop for the last 2 home games.

It may be better than a lot of empty seats at home games next year though....

I don't know, I am going to renew my tickets next year, I bet they do not have a net decrease in season ticket sales, I bet even if we lose out, there is still more season tickets sold next year than this year.

Re: Where's the money gonna come from...to can Mac?

"It's the money stupid" Sorry it this looks like a torch, but come on! What ISU sport makes the most money? Football! Da! Bowl or no Bowl, it is the pig skin that pays the bills. We are all Fanatics or we wouldn't post here. Even with increased Ticket prices next year do any of you think D-Mac as head coach will sell as many tickets next year as this year. It was JP and staff marketing a Meyer - Blythe and company, yes D-Mac too. How do you market a D-Mac led team next year?? With the product you have now it would be like running a Mark Foley for President campaign!!! JP will have to make tough decisions SOON! Do any of you think Mac can take us to the next level based upon current performance? if so send in your money. I'm waiting to contribute to the buy -out fund.
