    Blalock's Version of Events

Energy lose a wild one in Haluska home debut | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register

Blalock's return to central Iowa Wednesday had him thinking back to his three-year career at Iowa State. He left Iowa State after his junior year to declare for the 2006 NBA Draft.

"I miss it actually," Blalock said. "Now that I think about it, I wish I would have stayed my last year. I can't go dwell back on my past now, but I wish I would have, though."

... Blalock and Stinson, who now plays in the D-League for Austin, talk often. They left Iowa State at the same time to declare for the draft. "Me and Curtis are always on the phone. We're still good friends so we talk about it all the time, like we should have just stayed," Blalock said. "With the coaching change and all that stuff it was kind of difficult. That was our whole reason for leaving actually."
Didn't Blalock announce for the draft before Morgan was fired? It always seemed to me that their leaving early helped seal Morgan's fate.

They knew he was on his way out. Players aren't immune to what is going on.

Yeah, I'm almost positive they declared well before Morgan was fired, unless they knew something was in the works (which is doubtful).

I wish Will all the best as I do Curtis. But Iam glad there is a bit of remorse. I just hope they think future decisions more thoroughly before making MAJOR life decisions. Simply meaning, they realize it was a mistake and even though all sides moved on there is some 2nd thought going on.

Blalock was there with the rest of the team when McDermott had his little 1970's introduction pep rally. I don't think he had gone through the entire draft process yet but who knows. He definitely had thoughts about it before McD was hired.

Oh, we wish they stayed, too. They probably would have been frustrated with McDermott though.

They probably could have learned to deal with it for a year, though.

    Re: Blalock's Version of Events

I was kinda anxious to see Blalock w/o Stinson! I think without Stinson, Will would have been MUCH more aggressive in general and really stood out. Anyway, that's what I remember thinking might happen...

    Re: Blalock's Version of Events

A lot worse players than Blaylock have left school early for much sillier reasons. I mean he actually broke into the lineup for a while in the defending world champions ... he's gonna get back to the big time soon enough.

Except that neither one of them would feel that way if they were drafted (Stinson) or able to stay on a roster (Blalock).

    Re: Blalock's Version of Events

I think McDermott adjusts his system to the type of players he has. If we had a guy who could handle the ball & penetrate like a Blalock or Stinson, I believe Mac would allow the to create. We just haven't had that kind of guy the last two years. Looks like Diante was starting to get a little better at it the last few games & I saw Mac encouraging it.

It was like 2 or 3 days if I remember correctly, they declared and Morgan was fired very quickly after that.

A lot of juniors declare if they have any real possibility of playing pro ball, that way they can go to the camps and have scouts tell them what they need to work on. I think anybody with pro potential SHOULD declare as a junior just to get their name out there. A lot of guys come back.

    Re: Blalock's Version of Events

I think everyone assumed he was gone, but didn't he come out and say something like "I have no intention of going anywhere" or to that extent and left anyway. It's all in the past now, I just can't remember all of the details. I wish them both well.
