    Car Problem???

If any of you car experts get bored with the NCAA tournament you can help answer my question:

Early this week when I started my '99 Ford Taurus SE and went to put it in Reverse the gear shift would not budge. After messing around with it for a couple minutes it finally shifted and I had no problems shifting while driving. But now every time I start my car and go to shift in reverse the same thing happens. After initially being stuck, I have no problems shifting from drive to reverse and even back into park-it is only when I first start it.

Any idea what could be causing this?

    Thanks for your advice...

There's a switch mounted on the brake pedal, it makes sure that you are pushing the brake before trying to move the gear shifter out of park. It unlocks the gear shift when the pedal is pushed, and it's probably malfunctioning.

Sounds like the interlock, like ISUAlum said.

In the olden days, there was just a steering wheel one.

Either the switch is malfunctioning, or the mechanism that unlocks the shift lever is.
