One of the Great Ones has Passed: Arthur C Clarke

Son of a farmer, person who dealt with polio, futurist who proposed synchronous satellites for communications, Space Odyssey creator, predeccesor basis for Gene Roddenberry and Star trek, has passed away in Sri Lanka. His poetic visions truly helped usher in the space age.

    RIP, futurist!

It's been so long since I've read him, I don't remember anything, other than 2001: A Space Odyssey. I recently got back "into" reading Sci Fi, and as soon as I kill off David Weber's "Honor Harrington" series, I need to read through the Arthur C. Clarke I can find.

The other 3 in that series are worth reading if you enjoyed 2001. But I was a fan of the Kubrick film first, so that was an influence on reading the books. I have a few of his others that I should dust off and read. One of the things I like about his writing is that the science is more accurate than most writers. Some of his ideas are straight out of deep space, though. Ba dump bump!

    RIP.

Yeah well, ya know, that's just, like uh, your opinion, man.

I thought that Rendezvous with Rama was really good. Not a good year for nerds - first Gygax then Clarke. RIP.
