Iowa State is within striking distance of a 12-year high for season ticket purchases to menís basketball games at Hilton Coliseum.

By noon today, a total of 9,376 were sold, associate athletic director Steve Malchow said. That includes 1,909 tickets in the 200-level of the arena that were discounted to $99.

Iowa State officials can only locate menís basketball season-ticket records for the past 12 years. The most sold during that time was 9,604 for the 2001-02 season. A total of 8,897 were sold last season.

The Cyclones start the Greg McDermott coaching era on Nov. 3 with an exhibition against Global Sports.

Re: Cyclones near men's basketball ticket sales mark

Amazing. Really, think about it. We have a really sour season last year. Lose our 2 best players who decided to leave Ames early. Coach is fired. Lose some recruits as a result of it.

G-Mac is hired - while an in-state guy - not a huge name.

Yet...here we are close to setting records for season tickets sales. Amazing.

Just goes to show how much excitement has been created by the hiring of G-Mac.

Oh yeah...and that Pollard guy...he seems pretty smart too.

err.....I'd feel better about setting a record next year. this yrs team (while it could be really good) might only be "okay." I'd hate to see them set new attendance records only to see the team struggle/bomb out the season in two consecutive sports....kinda hard on cyclone moral.

Re: Cyclones near men's basketball ticket sales mark

And that's the thing...this team is expected to be in the bottom of the Big 12. Yet...ISU is selling tons of season tickets.

Tells me while fans don't expect much from this team, they're excited to be involved with the "new look" Cyclones and support our new coach!

I'm going to say, McD isn't greasing us up with a whole lot of Big 12 title talk either, only to aim for penetration with a crappy team performance. I don't think there is a single person alive that thinks the team is going to be better than average, but there is still excitment. It's a great thing. I got my season tickets.

same here. I'm just excited to see the new look to the basketball team! Us midwesterners like a certain style of play in our sports, and we believe we'll see that this year and in years to come!

So true, but I hope we upgrade our non-conference games in 2007 when we have the new recruits coming in, McIntosh, Taylor and Hubalek as seniors, and Thompson back off his redshirt. We should have depth and be a bit more competetive next season.

Re: Cyclones near men's basketball ticket sales mark

Next year we will have Minnesota at home, Iowa at home, UNI at home. Those are some pretty good tickets.

I'm not complaining as I understand it. It just makes the ticket sales even more impressive.

Re: Cyclones near men's basketball ticket sales mark

Great to see these impressive numbers! Now those without season tickets need to fill in those open areas. I saw a report where we had barely cracked the top 25 last year in D-1 MBB attendance. The team just ahead of us on that list was Iowa.......kind of surprising to see them that high, but hey they had a good year.

Lets not allow this to happen again!

Pollard's one smart guy. I mean, I even convinced my girlfriend to get season tickets. Ms. I Hate Sports, Period.

Safe to say that G-Mac has everyone excited.

Re: Cyclones near men's basketball ticket sales mark

The season ticket sales prove that ISU is a basketball school. I know I became an ISU fan because of MBB, and hopefully we can get back to a level of play where available tickets to Hilton become a tough get regardless of who we are playing. All the good non-conference games this year are on the road, but next years home schedule should be strong. I think we'll be better than most expect. Wesley Johnson and Michael Taylor will impress, and Cory Johnson has very good size and aggressiveness for a freshman.
