Yeah i have been real impressed by Daniel. Even in the loss to A&M. Pinkel just didn't put him in great situations to succeed. Those option calls where quite puzzling. And a good QB is really only as good as his OL. Kurt Warner can attest to that, as well as an aging Brett Favre.

Just went to the Iowa board to see if they were discussing it. Sure enough...

Most are being rational and understand Tate not being on the list.

Where do you think Meyer should fall on the list? top 50? top 100? (just wondering - I have no idea)

I wonder how good Meyer would be with a good offensive line blocking for him. He was picked to be the best QB in the Big 12 prior to the season by a number of media outlets and we have seen how his play has been affected by having no time to throw or defenders crashing into his face. On the other hand, that doesn't explain some of his actions (like his falling down interception against Oklahoma last week right into the hands of the lineman four feet in front of him).

I am not surprised that Daniel is on the list. The media loves him, and it will be interesting to see how he develops in the next two years.

    Re: Best 15 College QB's

Drew Tate is not a heisman candidate. He isn't even a top 75 overall player in NCAA football. He is good but he is neck and neck with Meyer right now. He isn't even a top 3 quarterback in his conference (Smith, Henne, Stanton) so i dont know how he can be mentioned in heisman talk

    Re: Best 15 College QB's

If Mark May had his way, Drew Tate would win the Heisman hands-down and give the national championship to the Hawkeyes.

But anyone else who's watched him play, aside from the tools at ESPN and ABC who call his games and repeatedly call him "just a gamer" and "just a competitive guy," knows that Tate is average, undersized, still plays well, but is a whiner and an immature leader.

Tell us how you really feel. Just kidding. I thought meyer got hit as he was throwing it away on that interception. That's just what I thought I heard them say, I could be wrong.

    Re: Best 15 College QB's

You're right, I think the replay showed Meyer's arm was hit as he was trying to throw over the guy in his face and into the hands of Scales who was about five yards upfield. But he also could have thrown the ball out of bounds before the play got so close. I can't fault Meyer for trying to make a play, but that was dangerous, and he had to have known that. Maybe I have a double standard, but I just get so tired of seeing stupid, stupid mistakes.

    Re: Best 15 College QB's

Yea, some of the decisions by Meyer this year are questionable. It seems like he is scared in the pocket(with good reason) at the start of games. You can see on the replays that the blocks were coming but he flushed early and it turns into a broken play. It seems like he is trying to do more by himself then with the team sometimes.

    Re: Best 15 College QB's

It pains me to say this but Meyer is not a top 20 QB right now. Stares down recievers. Doesnt stay in the pocket long enough (not much time if any), but when he does get time I think he is so surprised he still floods the pocket. He needs to pass the ball over the middle more too. I saw a stat where in one game this season he threw 80% of his passes towards the sidelines. I know that is playcalling as well, but a football field is 50 yards in length. USE IT. Too easy to guard if the receivers are always in the same 20 yard area.

At the same time Tate is and always has been overrated. Can't throw past 15 yards. Prime example ISU game. Any throw over 15 he missed. Good thing for him our D stunk and he could drop off passes to Brodell and pick up big yards. Then Hawk fans say he is the greatest.

As for Daniel, I think he is the real deal. A true competitor and that's always want you want from your leader.
