No. 11 Iowa State kept Kliff Kingsbury in check and Seneca Wallace ignited the offense with a 12-yard TD run that covered 135 yards of ground as the Cyclones beat Texas Tech 31-17. Lane Danielsen followed Wallace's touchdown with a 79-yard TD run on a reverse to put ISU ahead to stay. The two big plays helped the Cyclones pile up 228 yards of rushing.

Iowa State frustrated a Texas Tech offense that averaged 48.3 points over its last three games. Kingsbury, who threw for more than 400 yards in each of his previous two game, had just 272. The Cyclones, of to their best start since winning their first seven games in 1938, improved to 3-0 in league play for the first time since 1949. The two teams wre locked into a 3-3 tie before the Cyclones took advantage of two Tech fumbles to break it open.

The first, when Iowa State's Jeremy Loyd ripped the ball from Anton Paige, set up Wallace's touchdown. ISU took over at midfield and Wallace completed passes of 28 yards to Danielsen and 17 yards to Lance Young before working his magic on second down at the 12.

Pressured as he dropped back to pass, Wallace retreated to the 32, ran toward the right sideline, stayed inbounds as he continued looking for a receiver, then started back to his left at the 10. He then cut behind a crushing block from running back Michael Wagner on Ricky Sailor, Wallace strolled into the end zone untouched.

Tech came right back with a 15-play, 79-yard drive that Kingsbury finished with a 1-yard dive to tie it, but Iowa State needed only one play to regain the lead on Danielsen's reverse. Six plays later, Iowa State's Matt Word knocked the ball loose as Kingsbury scrambled. Word had 17 tackles, two for loss a sack and one forced fumble. Anthony Forrest recovered for the Cyclones at the Tech 40 and Iowa State needed only five plays to score, Wagner going the final 3 yards to make it 24-10. Wallace's 20-yard TD pass to Young stretched the lead to 31-10 with 5:51 left.

Wallace finished 15-of-22 for 148 yards.

    Re: Four years ago...

Great memory. I was there and I remember yelling to throw the ball away as he almost went out of bounds. He then turned, made several tacklers look like fools, and scored. Best play I have ever seen in person. That block by Wagner made the run even that much better.

I am heading over to Ames within the hour for tomorrow's game and to hit a couple of the old stomping grounds. I hope we see another amazing play tomorrow.

Anywhere that I can actually download and save that clip to my hard drive?

Awesome... that pumped me up to see that again.

I remember thinking the same thing...It was one of those "NO, NO, NO....YES, YES, YES!" plays.

    Re: Four years ago...

I am totally pumped for tomorrow's game. I am an open "get rid of Mac" fan but every week I want this team to dominate and win. Having Mac lose is not my wish! I just want what is best for ISU, which I think is letting Mac go.

With that said, I am cautiously optimistic tomorrow. I know we have the team, but haven't seen anything yet that shows me this staff can turn our talent into winning football. Let's all hope I am wrong.

was this game right before the great "collapse" of 2002?....what a disapointment...smoke and mirrors does not make a good team.

That's what I mean. Maybe this game will excorsize the demons that have plagued us ever since we hit the Top 10 four years ago.

That was an awesome game and the play was simply the play of the year. Happened right in front of us. Hearing the crunch Micheal Wagner put on was priceless. The rest of that season can be forgotten.
