    NIT vs. NCAA

I get that the NCAA tourney has the prestige and also has many, if not all, of the top 25-30 teams in the country. That said, I have long contended, but not actually tried to prove, that because of all of the automatic bids, that top to bottom, the NIT is a tougher overall tournament than the NCAA.

This year, the NCAA is soooo top heavy that it might actually be the case. Anyone know what the average RPI of both tourneys is this year? Historically?

OK, upon further review...I could be an idiot.

    Re: NIT vs. NCAA

Depends on what you are measuring. The average RPI of the NCAA is likely far better. Yes, there are a lot of automatic bids but most of them go to deserving teams. Only a couple times a year do teams that are really not that good (based on the years results) make it in due to an auto bid. Now, if you are talking about how closely matched and competative all of the games are, the NIT might have a case.
