    CBI

thought this was kind of odd. i was looking at the CBI (college basketball invite) page and it looks like the championship game is a best of 3 series. no team picked for it it yet, but i think its kind of cool the wat they have it set up.

There are not many crowds or places in the country that have a better impact on the game than at Iowa State. The Cyclone fans are truly a sixth man. The place is so loud and always a fantastic crowd." - Former Kansas and current North Carolina head coach Roy Williams

    Re: CBI

I don't think the official CBI pairings have been announced yet. UNI has an outside chance (and as an alumni I hope they do), but if they don't they really have no one to blame but themselves. They had some bad home losses to Iowa, Nevada, and Illinois-Chicago.

To me you lose alot of credibility putting in a team that is 13-18 and lost their last 6 games.....in Cincinnati......?

dang.. shoulda taken us in that case.. at least then they would have a big12 school

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: CBI

The CBI bracket is a pretty curious-looking concoction. In addition to Cincinnati and its losing record (13-18), there are several mid-major teams in the field with records that hover just barely above .500. According to this story, it sounds like the NCAA put pressure on teams to play in the NIT rather than the CBI. I'm wondering if the NIT intentionally took some pretty mediocre major conference teams like Oklahoma State and California as a way to keep some of the big-name teams out of the CBI.

Additionally, it sounds like some teams that weren't chosen for the NIT opted to stay home rather than play in the CBI. I wonder if some of the better teams that the CBI tried to lure into the tournament simply declined the offer, and that left the CBI scrambling to fill their bracket with 4th- and 5th-tier schools. It's the only way I can rationalize some of the teams that made it into the CBI.

BvK, you've got to quit making so much sense because I "must spread some rep around" before giving more to you.

Apparently Illinios declined an invitation to play in the CBI.

Just talked to Jake at UNI....You need to shell out $60,000 GTD to host a game.....UNI's season he felt was already long enough, with the Bangkok trip at the begining...

    Re: CBI

A lot of teams have turned down the option of playing in the CBI. I think this might be the only year we see it.

I like this idea...better, more national competition this way than not playing in pre-season tourneys.
