Bryce, Stats to counter the Hawks?

Saw this posted on a Hawk message board.

"The best players in the state, with few exceptions (but big ones!), come to play for the Hawkeyes. I'd bet that atleast 60% of the Mr. Iowa's have played for the Hawkeyes. And that figures in that some of those guys that didn't come to Iowa weren't D1 talents (or academic issues).

In my opinion, Alford had the 2nd best recruiting class in the state of Iowa history on his roster last year: Horner, Brunner, Haluska. They only trailed Collison and Heinrich."

While Brunner and Horner were an excellent recruiting class, and even better if you count Haluska as the same class, I still think the class of Hoiberg, Meyer, Beechum and not sure who else in that one was better. Both Meyer and Hoiberg were drafted. The class was even better when you look at the non Iowa players such as Julo.

I don't have the stats on where "Mr. Iowa" has gone to play, but not surprised if the quote above is accurate.

Re: Bryce, Stats to counter the Hawks?

I honestly don't even know what he's referring to. Is he saying that those guys are make up the best class containing all Iowa players?

It's pretty tough to argue that since they never won a single NCAA tournament game their entire career, zero big 10 titles, and one big ten tourney title.

Like you said, none of those guys went to the NBA, and Meyer was a first round pick, and Hoiberg would still be in the association today if it weren't for his health problem. I don't even know how this can be an argument.

Not only that, but you're leaving out teams like the one Gary Thompson was on. They beat a Wilt-led Kansas team and I think it was almost entirely Iowa players on that roster.

I love hawkeye delusions...it makes it that much more fun when we beat them. Give G-Mac a couple years and I think that will be the norm. (I would also bet G-Mac has his pick of Iowa players)

As of right now, UNI has on their roster 2 of the last 4 or 5 Iowa Mr. Basketball's on their roster, FWIW.
