    @UNLV - Our bowl game..

So I am already planning for next year, particularly the UNLV game. I figure kill 3 birds with 1 stone, trip to vegas, friends wedding, and ISU game.

Allegiant hasn't gone on sale yet, but I guarantee will fill up quick if the alumni association, etc havent already taken all the flights...

I plan on driving, has anyone ever made that drive? If so what's it like/recommendations... etc..

I also already rented a house for the whole week, so hopefully the family will be entertained while there...

Also I called UNLV to check on tix, not on sale yet.. I would like to buy tix through them so to not get crappy visitor seats... Do they sell out there?

Is it true you can't bet on UNLV games in vegas??

Anyway, I plan on making this my bowl for next year, and I have a hunch cyclone fans will invade VEGAS BABY!

Anyone else have thoughts/plans to go?

You can't bet on them in a casino, there are other options.

Me and some buddies are planning on going out there and flying out of Des Moines to Las Vegas via Allegiant Air...but like you mentioned, tickets for the flight don't go on sale til 6 months before the date of flight. I have personally not driven out there but from what I hear it's a long drive, and a boring one at that.

Really? That sucks, I was hoping to end my streak of losing money on ISU while in Vegas. Lost $100 on the A&M game in '04, and I think $50 on the Nebraska game in '06.

Left Sioux City around 10 pm and got into Vegas the next afternoon around 3-4 pm. only stopped for fuel and ate as we drove, most of time. Took 80 to Denver and then 70 through CO etc. and on to 5 in Utah to Vegas.
    Some interesting landscapes.

Re: @UNLV - Our bowl game..

I drove back to Iowa from Vegas once, after a round-trip to California, we took the furthest south route on our way out there. Slept in the car at a rest stop just outside the city, then dropped a couple hundred to get my brakes fixed before we left in the morning. Drove straight through, 22 hours to Storm Lake. Pretty boring trip, plus by that point we were ready to be done with the trip and get home. If I had won a Viper in a casino like Nick Papa Giorgio, I bet I could've made the trip in half the time! I did chase a Viper for awhile on the way to Vegas from LA, which was fun. I was driving the fastest Chevy Corsica on the planet. Eventually lost him on a 2-lane interstate with heavy traffic.

Re: @UNLV - Our bowl game..

I was looking at Allegiant Air today. Out of Des Moines for the end of August a 3 night stay Air + Hotel is running around $300-$500 depending on hotel. Does anybody know if prices would be around the same for September or if they are going up or down?

You would think if Allegiant was smart, they would add at least a couple extra flights that weekend. But Allegiant is probably too busy thinking of how they can charge for 'extras'.

Re: @UNLV - Our bowl game..

Chances are Allegiants $99 seats will be gone quick if they even have them because of demand. I'm guessing that a non-direct flight on another airline will end up cheaper. In the last 45 days I have seen tickets on their website (for travel in Feb.) range anywhere from $9 (yes NINE) to over $200/person/segment... Ticket prices to Vegas is just one more reason to whine about it not being football season.

I did the same thing, except only 2 nights. With air + hotel, i found some good deals around $250-$300.

I've made the drive a couple of times. It isn't too bad. If you are going to drive strait through though plan it out so you drive through Neb in the dark. It sucks sooo bad. Eastern Colorado ain't much better. But the drive through the mountains and Utah is pretty good to look at. About 21 Hours from D.M. or so depending on stops etc.

I'm kind of a big deal!

I totally agree, this is definitely the best way if you're driving straight through. Drive through NE in the dark (for obvious reasons) and the mountains during the day.

Just remember if you fly Allegiant, they close their ticket counter at least 45 minutes before the flight takes off and if you aren't already checked in you don't get to fly or get your money back. So make sure you don't run late.
