    movie review "the departed"

since i am stuck in Ireland for a bit for work...I thought I would post my review of "the departed".

    *no spoilers*

“The Departed” is damn near perfect. A bloody, gripping, and nearly impossibly complicated tale of two criss-crossed informants (one is a mob guy who has buried himself into the police force; the other is a cop undercover in the Irish criminal network), the film is paced to perfection, wonderfully observant, and packed with some of the best performances of the year. Thanks to supporting roles by Alec Baldwin and Mark Wahlberg, it’s also hilarious – the balance of brutal violence, wildly inappropriate humor, and easy, low-boil romance is nothing short of masterful, making for an exceedingly rewarding cinema experience and a hell of a good time. This is by far..the best film I have seen this year to date. A movie that pulls no slack...and looks not for the happy ending...and it may not be for everyone. For those who can stomach it...you will be rewarded.

Not damn near. It's perfect. I saw it a couple weeks ago and it's amazing work.

I couldn't believe how good DeCaprio and Damon were in it...

I've been trying to talk the wife into seeing it but we may have to go to The Prestige tomorrow night instead, "we're" big Scarlet Johanson fans

DiCaprio does it again. I am always impressed with his roles. It's a good movie, and yes, the best so far this year.

Great movie until the end, I thought the ending stunk. It's like the director looked at his watch and said that this is starting to run long lets wrap it quickly.

I didn't quite get that impression, but there was one major character revelation at the end that I not only didn't see coming, but didn't see any purpose for or understand how it was possible. Outside of that, I thoroughly enjoyed the whole movie.

SPOILER ALERT! Don't read any further if you haven't seen the movie!

I don't know if I'd say the ending stunk, but it was a little anticlimatic. The whole movie built up tension until a final confrontation between the two stars. Then when they're finally alone together and they both know the truth about the other, some guy whose basically an extra earlier in the film pops in and . . . I would have liked to have seen a more dramatic ending. But I still give the film a big thumbs up!

We don't go to many movies, prefer to watch 'em at home.

We'd rather put our "date money" toward nice dinners. Sam & Gabes, Centro, Latin King, etc.
