Iowa town offers bounty on cats

Iowa Town Offers Bounty on Stray Cats - Yahoo! Singapore News

I heard this on Paul Harvey yesterday and just saw an article for it.

Some residents are concerned that people will go around collecting cats to get several $5 bounties.

(This is from Paul Harvey yesterday...it was pretty funny)
But, the mayor says that only cats without collars can be turned in.

Someone asked the mayor "Why wouldn't those people just take the collars off?" To which the mayor responded "Uhhh...people wouldn't do that I don't think."

In Wisconsin it's legal to hunt cats year round.

Please tell me there is something better to do in peoples lives. I can see all sorts of torturous acts being committed and that disturbs me.

    Wow. Sounds dangerous!
Is there an illegal nip trade going on?
Do gangs of hooligan cats roam the streets at night stealing string?

I heard on the radio that the cats have some kind of disease that is spreading all over the town. What are people doing to these cats?

Animals do carry disease. We were not fond of stray dogs/cats on our farm as they would carry diseases that could kill hogs from one farm to the next.

Alaska pays $150 bounty for every killed wolf. 180 pilots and gunners have been given permits from Alaska which allows them to shoot wolves from the air. The aerial program is a much more effective way to thin the wolf population.

And who is thinning the human population? How much does that pay?

    For real.

    A. It could use it.
    B. I would not be completely shocked if eventually it were allowed to happen.

Re: Iowa town offers bounty on cats

"And when the smoke from my .700 Tyrannosaurus Rex Double Rifle cleared, the body of the Lawn Lion lay prostrate at my feet, frozen in it's fierce charge, and I had, yet again, cheated death in the tall grass, by claw and fang."

Feral cats are the #1 killer of native wildlife in America. Cat populations routinely boom and bust, due to uncontrolled breeding and the resultant diseases. Pregnant women and small children are particularly susceptible to the diseases carried by feral cats. Eliminating feral cats through neutering, or even hunting is a sound wildlife management technique.

I love my kitty. (She is a grey tiger tabbie with an orange underbase, and her name is "Honey".) I think cats are awesome creatures worth treasuring as pets. But I've also dispatched diseased feral animals or those harassing wildlife/livestock, when necessary.

I agree with that. Start to fix at the root. For those that are out and about, they should be captured and euthanized humanely. Morons running out there and shooting them for sport with a shotgun or high powered rifle taking pot-shots at their legs and other torturous activities is rediculous. I just have a feeling this will be done with a laugh and that bothers me.
