    2009 Season and 2010 Recruiting . . .

Call me Mr. Obvious, but this post is an outlet for my enthusiasm.

Depending upon whether next month's two MBB signees are two year or four year players, the 2010 recruiting class will likely consist of 3-5 players. Important class.

The performance of next season's team, the 2008-09 edition, will be a highly important key to landing a top-notch 2010 class, you'd think. Marked improvement next season will give Greg and assistants a fine marketing tool.

My point: The stars appear to be lining up in ISU's favor. Of course, those here who don't believe next season's team will improve much will disagree. But, I'm the optimistic type, so I choose to believe that with all the returnees and the newcomers, including Lucca, the 2008-09 Cyclones MBB will be a feisty outfit.

Jordan Dykstra is committed for the 2010 class, and we all hope Harrison Barnes will choose to become a member of that class, too. Maybe with excitment surrounding improved play of next year's team, Harrison will make that decision sooner rather than later.

If Dykstra and Barnes were on board, I wonder if they might not have a good influence on some of the other premium student-athletes being recruited by Greg for that class. Like, "Hey, let's all do this together, the five of us, we can make big things happen."

Positive vibes. I've got 'em. Anyone else?

I have heard from a very reliable source that there is another in state school that beleives they have a VERY good shot at Barnes....and it's not Iowa.

Don't forget Dykstra knows a ton of talented players, due to his AAU team. His AAU coach is Jake Sullivan, and three talented '10 prospects, Harrison, Brandon Stebbs (sp?) and AJ derby of City High, play on the same team as him. Hopefully he can kind of sway these guys toward Iowa State.

Drake? I am pretty sure he wouldn't want to go to UNI. I don't know how good Drake will continue to be though, without Emmenecker, Korver, Houston, and a Bucky Cox.

Barnes sounds like a great player, but it won't be the end of the world if we don't get him. It seems some of the fans are using his recruiting as litmus test for how good a job Greg Mcdermott is doing. Fact of the matter is you win some and lose some in recruting wars.

Glad to see some positive vibes. It does look much better then what the last 3 or 4 years has been.

With all the built in recruiting advantages Greg has in Barnes' recruitment, it will be a litmus test. If he can't get him on board... red flag.

Yes Drake, they have a transfer eligible next year that will fill in nice. I have been told by a coach there they beleive they have the best recruiting class in the state coming in... My source isn't that coach but someone else very close to the program, he put it at 50-50 Drake or ISU.

Well that will change when Keno Davis gets a new job.

“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.”

"I hope to coach here until I retire," Hoiberg said.

That actually relieves me, because as long as he is staying in state, Iowa State has a good chance at him. Hopefully he doesn't blow up on the AAU circuit.

Drake seems to be the flavor of the month right now. Granted they are doing well, but what goes up must come down(as ISU knows only too well.)

I think Keno will move on to bigger money sooner or later.

I think he's gone this year or next. If/when Ben Howland retires, he would be a good fit for UCLA, since his offense and defense are based on Wooden's. I think he will leave for a higher profile job, maybe big east? I don't think he'll go to Indiana, but you never can tell.

Josh Young can flat out play. Next year could be almost as good as this year, for them, but I think they won't be quite as good without all of their seniors and Emmenecker is their spark plug.

Maybe Barnes prefers Drake style of offense.
