Don't Forget to Set Your Clocks Forward!

Daylight Savings Time begins earlier than it used to...don't forget to set your clocks forward one hour on Saturday night!

Personally, I hate the fact that DST starts three weeks earlier. I have an alarm clock that automatically sets itself forward and backward on the appropriate days--that is until they changed the dates that DST starts and ends. Now I have to be sure I reset my clock in the opposite direction on the days that DST used to start and end or else my alarm goes off at the wrong time!

And now comes word that none of it really makes the difference it's intended to make anyway...

Why is everything earlier this year? (Except Spring) Easter in March? Already DST.

Too bad about your alarm clock. I like the "atomic" clocks that set themselves with NIST. They deal with DST no matter when it starts or ends.

I still love DST. It gives me extra time to get stuff done outside after work.

It sucks for us computer geeks too. All the calendaring systems go crazy for that 3 weeks and all meetings are off.

Man, that story ticks me off. I didn't like DST before, and I really don't like it now. I love that line about never having a study with such unambiguous findings before.

DST definately sucks for Western Alaska. It means that we won't see the sunrise until around 10:00 am. The tradeoff is that it won't be getting dark until around 9:00 pm.

Just move to Arizona and then you don't have to worry about the nonsense. Of course, you still have to deal with the rest of the country's shifting schedule twice a year.

Well, if anyone here really hates DST that much, you have no one to blame but good ol' Ben Franklin...

I love the last line of the article in the first post.

In related news, it was also revealed that Daylight Saving Time actually creates no additional daylight.

Re: Don't Forget to Set Your Clocks Forward!

I don't really hate Daylight Savings Time. I like having the extra hour of daylight in the evening. It makes spring and summer that much more enjoyable.

At this risk of getting this thread moved to the Cave, I'll say this: I do hate that congress felt they needed to extend it by four weeks to "save" on energy usage when it had already been established back in the 70s that it didn't save energy at all. And now they're saying it actually results in more energy usage. Whichever congressperson came up with the idea to extend DST either didn't do their research or thought it would look good politically, and obviously the majority of congress agreed.

This was passed before the Democrats took the majority in 2006, by the way. I'm not necessarily placing blame on the Republicans, because Democrats voted for the bill that put this into effect as well. I just don't want people thinking the current Democratic majority is responsible for this.

It was passed on by bipartisan support.

    Yeas - 85, Nays - 12

i am sure we could find studies that support its help or not in conserving energy.

IMO, i enjoy the 'extra' light in the evenings even if we can't golf early in Iowa this year.
