    Re: Ames Snow Removal

In past years, I would have said, without a doubt, A. Very below average. However, after driving through Marshalltown for a week and a half last month, Ames is about average. Marshalltown was absolute S**T!!!

    Re: Ames Snow Removal

Just because Ames is above Marshalltown doesn't mean it isn't absolutely awful. I swear to god, Ames' snow removal/plowing just pretends to clear the roads while the sun comes out and driving on the roads actually gets rid of everything on the roads.

    You should include:

    D. Where the %#%@ are the snow plows?
    E. What salt and sand?
    F. Both D. and E. as well as the grade they should receive!

    Re: Ames Snow Removal

I'd say below average is Iowa City! That was horrible, I could only imagine driving in that town when it gets to be 45-50 degrees...it'd be like have all 4 wheels driving down their seperate river.

    Re: Ames Snow Removal

Seriously? Unless you get the exact amount of snow and have the exact configuration of roads, etc. there is no way to quantify this. Is your budget the same? Are your parks and recs better in the summer because there was a decision to cheat salt/sand now? Did you factor in the fact that we've had the most snow - without melt - in some time? The simple fact is that the interstates are kept above average while city streets always suffer. This post is nothing more than a new way to complain about something other than the football recruiting or the basketball team.

Those are cleared by two different entities. The interstates are cleared by the state, which has a bigger budget. The local streets are cleared by the municipality. I think Ames snow removal is pretty terrible as well. I did see on locall access channel something explaining the heirarchy of which roads get cleaned first.

I would like to know how the residents of Ames feel about this. Do the residents' streets get cleared first/more often? I would think this would be the case, but I am not sure.

My grandparents live on Johnson St. by the mall in Ames. I don't think the city touched their street the whole month of December.

    Re: Ames Snow Removal

I don't have any problems with Ames' snow removal, although I live on a snow route so that probably helps. I do know that Ames either has been or is short/out of salt so that affects things some what. Can't please everyone, someone's always going to be last to get plowed out. Side streets just aren't important in the scheme of things, I'd rather them make sure the main drags are clear and deiced rather than make it easy for me to get to my parents house up by the mall.

    Re: Ames Snow Removal

I wish my employer would put a little salt or sand down in the parking lot, it is icy. I slipped getting out this morning and hit my head on the top of the car, without spilling any coffee. I'm sure to anyone watching it looked like a very acrobatic move.
