I wanted to take a look at the progression of our depth chart. By my calculation, we only have three players who have started in the exact same position as they were slated to when two a days started. We’ve had other people that have played every game, but they’ve been switched to other positions (such as Banks from FS to SAM, and Moorehead from either of the end positions). It’s tough to get chemistry on defense and really learn a position well when there is no continuity in the positions. Good news though, there will only be three seniors next year. So that’s good to look forward to.

    Re: Progression of defensive starters

Also, I looked at the number of players we've lost since last year...

    We graduated 7 seniors.

We lost 2 returners in Berryman and Robertson

We lost 2 starters before the season in Taylor and Smith

We lost 2 starters in the season in Carper and Jackson to injury.

That's thirteen position changes since the end of last season. That's rough, no matter what team you are if you're ISU or OU. We're really going to be trotting out a skeleton crew next week.

Good post, I agree that it's hard to get chemistry. It's also hard to play good D when the O won't play!

    Re: Progression of defensive starters

Thanks for putting this in black and white.

I can't help but to think what could have been with Berryman and Robertson still on this team.

I did expect some changes in th depth chart, but mostly on the defensive line as we tried to find the right combo. Didn't expect the changes at linebacker and in the secondary.

Now, for next week, we've got just three guys that saw significant minutes in 2005 - in the starting lineup - Curvey, Moorhead and Bowen.
