    Active Duty Military

I was just wondering if there were any other Active Duty Military Cyclones out there. I graduated from ISU in December 04 with a degree in MIS. I pin on Captain in less than a year. I have met one other officer that is an ISU alum at my location in the Florida panhandle. It seems to me that there are not very many of us.

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

    Re: Active Duty Military

I'm not, but my "little" sister just graduated from basic training (Army Reserves - Military Police) a couple weeks ago.

The weekend she got back from Fort Leonard Wood and reported in Davenport - she found out she'd be headed to Iraq in October. Oh joy...

Been learning a lot about the military the last month or so.

    Re: Active Duty Military

I'm technically one of those Eeeevil military contractors. In another life, I am/was an Army Officer. Depends on what day of the week you ask, I s'pose.

My eldest daughter (17) has asking about the Air Force as a career. She wants to go AeroE and get a schollie, if possible.

Do you have any advice for her?

Most of the ROTC students at ISU are AeroE's. Most want to become pilots, but the reality is that most of them will be engineers for the Air Force. If she wants a ROTC scholarship go to AFROTC.COM. They will give you the details. If she is interested, I would pursue it. It is a great way to pay for college and gain valuable experience.

Former active army, now national guard. Just got back from Iraq in July. I don't know how long you have lived in the South, but you will grow to hate the SEC.

Hey, if you are deploying some time let me know. My wife and I like to support Cyclones abroad with care packages.

    Go State!

I have been in the South for three years and I am definately sick of the SEC. All I hear about is LSU, Alabama, and Auburn. It worse than what western Iowans hear on the local TV stations about Nebraska.

I will be deploying this sometime this Summer.

Thank you! It's been interesting here for the last 20 days or so but it's slowly getting better.

Congrats on your Captain promotion. I hope you will make a better officer than most of mine. As a fellow ISU grad I'm sure it won't be tough.

So as an ISU grad is being an officer something you aspire to, or have you got other plans for your life?

Chuck Lidell: I paint my toenails with pink and black polish. Problem is, I get more paint on my toes and on the carpet than on my nails. Any advice?
Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

Come on Eric, nothing is worse than the Cornholer crap! It takes 3 schools to add up to the stuff that Nebraska produces!

Gregory, you are correct. But it does compare.

Funny that you ask. I am already under stop-loss (being held involuntarily after one's contract) right now so after this I will be 100% out. After discharge, I plan on putting my Business degree to use somewhere in Central Iowa and enjoying ISU athletics for decades to come, without these "less than convenient" deployments.
