What's with the "K" before NU? i've read many posts referencing that school to the west at kNU, and then something along the lines of knowledge but i just can't make the connection.

    Re: kNU?

I think it relates to the fact that in Nebraska, the "N" stands for "Nowledge".

    Thus, kNU.

    Did that help?

It's like the U of OWA.....I stands for Integrity, and there never has been any at OWA. It's the only place I know where Moral Turpitude is a degree program.

Yep, to show how good of a university they have they put N for Nowledge on the football helmets.

    Re: kNU?

Can anybody explain to me why it says "Universitas Nebraskensis" on their official seal? I believe Kansas does this too. Is there a purpose or is it supposed to be a cute scientific classification they gave their states name?

If so, I find that horribly cheesy and speaks volumes why Nebraska has a reputation for being one of the worst research institutions among major public schools without competition within state.

I am no fan of nebraska but this is the dumbest thing I have ever heard. Those that use this "kNU" thing are the true "knowledge" people. LAME.

We aren't even close to being the first fan base that has used this phrase.

    LINK

One of my friends in Arizona, of all places, gave me a series of quick jokes about the Nebraska football team. My favorite is 'The players think the 'N' on the helmet stands for knowledge.'

In the cesspool that is for-profit college sports, Nebraska under Osborne was particularly repellent.

So what? Should we also stop making fun of EIU so you can feel better about posting on this board? Get a life...

Maria Sharapova: Don't you beat up other guys for a living? I don't know how to answer this.

    Re: kNU?

This kNU thing is as old as the hills - backs in the days when TO used to coach.

Danny Nee-baskaball was used sometimes also.

kNU probably also leads in academic all-americans - their gradepoints are in the stratosphere. Who kNUw how smrt thaay r?

"Nebraskensis" is a Latin adjectival form. Obviously "Nebraska" is not a native Latin word, so this word is completely made up. "Universitas" is a real Latin word that was somewhat fabricated by the Roman Catholic church fathers sometime in the 1st millennium AD. The ancient Roman word was actually "universus" and meant "oneness, of one, one world, the whole world."

Basically they are trying to make themselves sound smarter.
