    McKenzie 15, Bowen 12, and Banks 8

Three linebackers continue to remain in top 30 as tackling machines. Alvin had 8 solo.

Now if we could get our backfield to tackle better.

Or get our defensive line to slip off of a block or three every now and then and stop them at the line so our secondary doesn't need to get involved...

Banks is 30, Bowen is 1, and McKenzie is 4 in the nation at D-1.

I find it hard to believe I am saying this, but I think we have one of the youngest and finest linebacking groups in the country. The backfield is having a hard time, the front four are just now improving and yet the linebackers consistently pile up the tackles. Where would we be with an average linebacking corps?

Pardon me...but I don't think these linebackers are great as some want to paint to be. They are good...a solid good. But not great by any means.

They are one of the bigger culprits of the missed tackles.

Missed tackles do not spell greatness.

They're young, so they have time to improve. But they're lacking one of the most basic fundamentals of football.

Having two players in the top 5 in the nation in tackles is pretty indicative of how much time our defense spends on the field.

Now if we would take a little risk and blitz those linebackers.

However, the comment that bothered me during the Oklahoma telecast was that 75% of the short passes are completed against ISU. Did I hear right??

...and that the d-line isn't stopping anyone.

At this point after watching Blythe drop several passes in last game And Bret throw some interceptions, I suggest to all that Alvin Bowen is playing the best ball on the team at this point. He is the one who was nominated by a sports group for seond team all american thru mid season. And he got right back on the field after he was injured Saturday. He and McKenzie show more fire than the rest of the team. Then DeMarcus before injury. Then Todd. Then Koch. Then Scott. Then that's about it.

A lot of our missed tackles was AP running thru secondary arm tackles.

    Where's the beef?
    Where's the fire?
    Where's the scoring?
    Where's the tackling?

This is good and bad. Good because our line backers are making a lot of tackles but bad because it means the opponets are gaining yards because the D-Line is terrible.
