Does ISU have an offensive line?

4 out of the 5 are seniors. Why is blocking such a foreign concept to these guys? I know a lot of people have been critical of Stevie, but maybe if he had some holes to run through he might have more production. I feel sorry for Meyer . He is running around out there on every play just trying to save his own skin. Scary thing is that our offensive line might get WORSE next year.

Like many of the rest of you I can not figure out how an offensive unit that returned 10 of 11 starters can not move the ball. Yes, the ISU defense has issues but I can live with what they've done as compared to pitiful season that the offense has produced so far.

Yup...this offensive mess is on the shoulders of the offensive line...oh...about 80% of it.

Wanna know why our play calling has been strange? We can't block...

I agree. I don't understand it. I predicted 6-6 for this team prior to the season hoping somehow, just once, the team would prove that wrong. I know the season isn't over yet, but this offense doesn't give me a lot of reason for hope.

On an individual level, I do salute Curvey, Parker, Bowen, Blythe and Meyer. None of them have been perfect, but I only wish the rest of the team could elevate its play to their level.

    LT-Lee Tibbs + LG-Tom Schmeling + C-Bastian Schober + RG-Reggie Stephens + RT-John Tjaden= A broken Meyer and no running game in '07

Finally we saw Big Play Curvey today. That's a sign of a senior trying to put the team on his back and lead them to success. He'd get blocked...fight through it and make a play. Emotion. Fight. Perseverance.

Too bad not everyone followed his example.

We're not going to win many games if our offense can only score 1 touchdown a game.

You and I disagree on a lot of things, but you are dead-on on this. Curvey was a stud today. He blew through blocks a couple of times to get the QB. I wish our 4 seniors on the offensive line could exhibit a little of his mentality.

Wow, we're likely going to suck far worse next year...

Our O-line is absolutely, positively terrible---maybe even worse than that. The bad news: 4 of the 5 are seniors and aren't going to have the chance to improve in the off-season and make some sort of positive contribution. Assuming the coaches aren't complete morons, the O-linemen that are playing are better than the other ones on the roster.

    This is not good.

We would have Jerry Rice, Steve Largent and Randy Moss at receiver at it won't help the offense any.

What reason is there for optimism?

    Give me something. Anything.

I'm with you. And I'm sorry, but I can't give you anything positive. There are a few individuals out there busting their hump - Curvey, Blythe, Meyer, Parker, and Bowen come to mind. Bottom line though you can't win if you can't score points.

I saw good things from Jon Banks today too. Really, I think he's found his home. They called his name a lot today.

I didn't even see or hear Parker's name today.

    Flynn always plays hard too.

Re: Does ISU have an offensive line?

I will even go as far as saying that our offense is the cause of the defense being worse than they actually are. They are always put in bad spots. They never get off the field. Even if the Defense gets a turnover the Offense goes 3 and out. Bad news.
We need to start recruiting Lineman otherwise our Skilled positions welll......They will look like they do now. Bad

Re: Does ISU have an offensive line?

I agree that the defense is having so much trouble because they are spending so much time on the field and continually put in tough situations. Anytime a defense is on the field as much as ours is they are going to give up a lot of points.

That's not really bad news. The good news is in a few months they won't be ISU's problem anymore. You want to hearr something really sad? Brant and Zehr have pretty much been 4 year starters! That's sad. They haven't improved at all either. So to those two i would like to congratulate them. Congrats Aaron Brant and Seth Zehr for being two of the biggest if not the biggest dissapointments of the year. You two along with the Fisher brothers and Schmeling (who hopefully won't turn out like Brant and Zehr) make up quite possibly one of the worst o-lines ISU has ever seen. If it wasn't for Stephenson they Cyclones might not even be able to run plays at all. Here is one thought going into next year. ISU can't play any worse. Can they?

Re: Does ISU have an offensive line?

It IS bad news if they're currently better than the guys behind them that will be playing next year.

Think how bad those guys must currently be. I have not heard anything good about the younger O-linemen and worry that it could indeed get worse.
