    Re: McDermott's coaching staff

That is a great question for the Coaches for a Day to answer. We know the assistants pretty much rn the practices as Coach is the overseer.

    Re: McDermott's coaching staff

Jeff Rutter, the top assistant coach on the totem pole, is as good as they come as far as I'm concerned. He really knows the game, he's an excellent recruiter (especially with the parents), he's extremely loyal, and he is as classy as anyone I've ever met. I haven't dealt with the other coaches very much, but everything I've heard about them has been very positive.

    Re: McDermott's coaching staff

I have a lot of experience dealing with them and people that know them and I have never heard a single bad thing about any of them. From what others throughout the Big XII and midwest have told me, they're all very highly thought of throughout the coaching world. I would venture to guess you'd be hard pressed to find a staff anywhere in the Big XII or Big Ten that was as highly thought of as individuals from top-to-bottom as the ISU MBB staff.

In my opinion, part of the reason this staff was chosen was because of their honesty and integrity - almost as much as their coaching abilities. When you're rebuilding a program that was as far down as ISU's was, the first thing you need to do is get a staff together that you don't have to worry about. The winning comes later, and we'll see that soon enough, but the first order was to get the image of the program turned around, something they've done a great job of doing in the coaching circles.

A program isn't built on one player and it doesn't succeed because of one player, thus a program won't fail if it doesn't get that one player.

Any chance someone on the staff gets a head coaching job after the season.

Well that sure is pleasant change. I think Wayne Morgans staff was okay, but Larry Eustachy had some real loose cannons on his. Isn't one of them in jail right now?

There have been rumors but nobody could say for certain one way or another. Typically it seems like there will be rumors for a year and then something happens the following year so I wouldn't be surprised if it was another year before there was a change due to that. I'd love to see them all stick around a while because they're terrific recruiters and it's only a matter of time before all their hard work starts to pay dividends.

excellent recruiter? how can we prove this? we have had one stellar with lots of potential sign with us in brackins, but after that who? and as far as next year, who? so far I am not really impressed with the players we are bringing in. We have two walk ons playing significant time in peterson and haluska. That is just my take though

    Re: McDermott's coaching staff

If I had to choose, I feel that the McD basketball talent coming in is better than the Gene football talent. Am I wrong? However, Gene talent is slightly better than Dan talent I perceive whereas McD talent is slightly less than Wayne talent.

Our shooting at 42 per cent is worse in the league. Okie State is at 44 per cent shooting.

Wesly Johnson has sure proven himself. Lucca Steiger sounds great. We won't know about next years class until we see them play. How did you come to your conclusion?

    Re: McDermott's coaching staff

Do we know if any one person was directly responsible for Wesley? I remember hearing that he wasn't on anyone's radar, due to his school being closed down but someone saw him play and made him an offer quickly. Was it McD himself?

I thought JeaneP tracked him down in Detroit after he left the South.
