    Could this be true?

Found this under the Fulmer Cup rankings (rating Thug U):

More Iowans attend Iowa State than any other institution of higher learning in the state (this is actually true).

Maybe Mr Miller and the rest of the media should take note.

I actually found that hilariously funny. And mostly true, even with tongue implanted firmly in cheek.

    Re: Could this be true?

That is mighty funny! I just wonder who wrote it. It could be true that more Iowans go to ISU than the U of I. Maybe they get more out-of-staters coming in. After all, most Hawk fans' kids aren't actually smart enough to get in there.

    Re: Could this be true?

Iowa has a pretty large contingent from the Chicagoland area. I think a lot of it comes down to what the schools specialize in.

Iowa still has a strong rural and ag flavor to it. A lot of people grow up in rural and ag areas, and want to study such things at the college level. ISU has that for them. They of course have a lot more than just that.

Iowa is strong in medicine, law and business. It has a great med school. I think there are a lot of well to do kids from Chicago that come there for that.

However, Ames is perhaps most famous for the fact that the residents of the city hate the university and its students, and think Ames would be a far better town without 30,000 people spending money, working low-end jobs, and paying sales taxes.
    This was funny

So you are saying ISU has a bunch of Hicks and Iowa has a bunch of rich smart kids. Thanks Jon There is more to ISU than the College of Ag.

    Re: Could this be true?

Actually the reason a lot of Chicago area kids go to EIU is because they cannot get into the University of Illinois. Referenced by the fact that whenever Iowa plays in Champaign, the Hawkeyes are treated with chants of "Fall back school", which is always damn hilarious to hear

That and the fact that out of state tuition to Iowa is pretty comparable to in-state tuition at UICU

Nope. That is what you are saying. I grew up in a small town, my dad is the son of a farmer, and has worked in ag his whole life. I am more small town than I am anything else.

Being from a small town doesn't make you a hick. Atlanta is full of examples like that.

Ya I know. ISU has a few hicks here and there but really most ag students at ISU are just like the rest of the students there and at any other school.

And with $5 corn and beans in the teens, and bio-fuel interest rising, the ag college might get an influx of kids from lots of backgrounds.
