We were sitting at the hotel bar last night talking to some rather colorful locals, when one mentioned a brother that had a checkered past.
Apparently, he moved out at 16, and spent the next 8 years incommunicado with his family. He showed up at the door after that, just to say hi, mostly at the bequest of his wife, so their child could know his grandparents.
It turns out he had been working the last 8 years as a carny. He had worked his way up from elephant poop scooper, to the pixie dust spreader on the tilt-a-whirl or something (I forget the details, as I was finishing up a second 20 oz Dragon's Milk Ale from New Holland Brewery which was amazing, but 9.0abv). Anyway, he disappears for 8 years, and comes back again, this time retired from full-time carny work, and now just worked pony rides when the carnival came to town.
So apparently there are carny reserve forces strategically placed around the country. I don't know whether or not to be scared that I have this knowledge, knowing that I now live in a brave, new world.
At any rate, what colorful bar people stories do you all have? I always love making new, and sometimes bizarre friends.
