    Smoking Ban passes Senate

Smoking ban gets Senate approval | DesMoinesRegister.com | The Des Moines Register

The casino exemption was axed which was a step forward.

However, this bill makes it illegal to smoke (cigars too) on a public golf course. But not a private one.

The current bill also does not allow smoking on patios in bars and restuarants.

I stayed out of this since I don't smoke in restaurants. But on the golf course? I likey me a cigar while playing.

I don't know the key to success, but the key to failure is trying to please everyone.

Will bars/restaurants need to build another area outside for smoking or will people have to leave the property of the bar/restaurant to smoke?

You got it, I hate second-hand smoke and smoking but you have a choice to go to these places. You also have a choice whether you work in a smokey environment as well. This is just one step closer to the government restricting everything we do.

According to Brad Zaun, a state senator who is talking about the bill on the radio right now, you will have to smoke outside of the bar. This bill will make it illegal to smoke in any place that is serviced by an employee (patio, smoking section, etc.).

So that includes the backroom at the Lumberyard I guess.

I'm all for freedom as long as that freedom doesn't infringe on my rights to breathe "clean" air and stay healthy. Smoking is a choice, second-hand smoke is not a choice.

I don't think I'm alone when I say I'd like to see more and more planets fall under the ruthless domination of our solar system.

Not if you live in a rural area were the only employer is the local casino.

Couldn't they be considered independent contractors and not emloyees? Maybe you could get around it that way. Just a thought.

Then let's ban going into the old buildings downtown as there are some radon problems.

Let's also ban drinking water because there are traces of carinogens in water as well.

Also, car exhaust is bad for you too...let's outlaw them too.

There are risks EVERYWHERE. It doesn't mean we should outlaw them.

Oh man, I love where this thread is going. Let smokers smoke in the parking lot, with any luck natural selection will take over as they get picked off by cars entering/leaving.

Well, if they're stupid enough to smoke in the first place, then who really cares what happens to them?

I'm fairly sure all the things you mentioned are regulated to a point, radon leaks would be building code violations of some sort, water obviously is regulated, same with car emissions systems.

If I can come home from the bar without the smell of my hair making me sick, I am all for it.
