    McDermott = Kevin Stallings

Here is what Kevin Stallings had one since he's benn at Vandy.

    99-00 19-11 NIT
    00-01 15-15
    01-02 17-15 NIT
    02-03 11-18
    03-04 23-10 Sweet 16
    04-05 20-14 NIT
    05-06 17-13 NIT
    06-07 22-12 Sweet 16
    07-08 Rated No 14.

I think McDermott can have similar success. Vandy is finally to the point where they expect the postseason every year. Sometimes it doesn't happen as fast as we want but that doesn't mean it won't happen. I'm willing to wait.

    Re: McDermott = Kevin Stallings

But Stallings took Vandy to the NIT in his first year and McD didn't. So McD sucks right!!

Kidding. I am hoping for success like Vandy has had lately and I think coach can do it

Iowa State: Anyone who's a true college basketball fan needs to see a game at Hilton Coliseum. Nice is in the DNA of Iowans and the fans here are particularly gracious -- even when the home team loses but gives a great effort, they are appreciative.

ESPN.com picked Hilton Coliseum as the "Hot Arena" in the Big 12...coaches in the league noted that, "regardless of talent, the Cyclones have a home court like no other."

You can add beating the number #1 team in the nation to that.

They've brought in similar ranked classes in the last few years, difference is their players have probably all stayed.

“One day we’ll be in here celebrating a Big 12 championship,” Rhoads said. “That I can promise you.”

"I hope to coach here until I retire," Hoiberg said.

    Re: McDermott = Kevin Stallings

Vanderbilt is a much smaller school than ISU (it has only about 11,000 students of which only about 6,000 are undergrads) with much stricter enrollment requirements (because it is a private school that prides itself on its academic reputation).

They also happen to have a very small athletic budget...even smaller than ISU's, I think (not certain). All of this while playing in the SEC...a conference that is consistently producing Final Four teams and has won the last 2 National Championships.

I would say Stallings is a pretty decent coach. However, in my opinion, his job at Vandy is much tougher than McDermott's job at ISU because of the entrance requirements and small budget relative to those that he has to compete with.

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

Stallings is a likely top 3 for the IU job right now. He and Greenspan (IU AD) have a long history.

without an A.D and all the beauracracy. Athletics was assigned to an asst to the university president and each sport was assigned an oversee person. since implementing this system 3 or 4 yrs ago, performance in FB & BB have increased markedly, dont know about other sports. a number of institutions are looking at the vandy model as we speak.

Their home court advantage is unreal....with the way their "arena" is set up it difinitely would be a hard place to play - That being said, yes, that stat is rather impressive

I think Stallings is a Purdue grad. Greenspan wanted him last time but he had to be talked out of it. The Indiana Boosters dont want a Purdue grad as their coach, no matter how good he is. Do you really think Greenspan will be allowed to hire the coach this time around?

Well look what they got last time he went the way they wanted. Maybe they just let him try it this time.

I believe they actually did this as a way to make sure the University was in control of the Athletic Department (as opposed to it being defacto the opposite at many big schools). They also did it as a cost cutting measure. However, the bottom line is that they have hired a couple of pretty darned good coaches as their head men in FB and BB.
