    Should I feel guilty?

I work with a bunch of fairly technically incompetent people, as in, they can "use" the internet, type Word(tm) documents, and manipulate certain parts of PowerPoint(tm).

But for special projects, our office has transitioned/is transitioning to SharePoint(tm). Now, I used SharePoint in my last job, so I am becoming the SharePoint "expert", which is resulting in me getting more work, which results in "more money".

What I feel guilty about, is that SharePoint is so easy to use that I could train a mentally deficient cat to use it. Or perhaps some of the simpler forms of invertebrates. I've tried to train people to use it, instead of leaning on me so heavily, but they will have nothing to do with it. People stroke me at the office, and in meetings, to try to get "on my good side" vis-a-vis SharePoint.

Should I just enjoy the attention, extra money and performance review/raise? I can't believe what a big deal they are making about this. Anyone else who has used SP can probably attest to how stupid simple it is to use.

    Whattya think?

Share Point is easy.... but just take the extra money and etc. If they don't want to take the time to learn it, then take the glory and money and shame on them, not shame on you.

    Re: Should I feel guilty?

I think sharepoint is some of the WORST software ever written. It is just sheer junk, I am not sure why any company would put up with such a bad piece of software. Yes, my company adopted it, and ohh man do I hate it. The problem is, I am in charge of the team that runs sharepoint. What a pain.

    Re: Should I feel guilty?

I have a SharePoint for each of the various projects I run. Simple as heck to use and a great way to share project related information to the masses. Never had any issues with it at all. That being said, I don't administrate it, which might be another story.

As for feeling guilty? Heck no. Take what you can get. While I know SharePoint is wicked simple, I often find that things I think are totally simple are not so to other people, mostly the ones that went to EIU.

I say teach the others, and allow your company to grow, challenge yourself and others to be better, your bosses will see that you have taken some initiative. Or that I what I think at least.

No, the others that haven't figured it out or only looking to you to do the work with the software are simply paying the 'stupid tax'. No guilt should be involved over a stupid tax.

    Re: Should I feel guilty?

I would offer to share your knowledge with others. You don't want to be the only one that they depend on. If you're on vacation who is going to do the work for you? I'd rather have someone who can back me up when I'm gone rather than everyone depending on me and the work just sitting there waiting for me when I get back.

    Re: Should I feel guilty?

That's well and good, but they have been adamantly unwilling to learn.

Which doesn't bode well, as I plan on leaving this job, either this summer, or next, in order to move back to Iowa.

Right now, I'm just taking the money for doing very little, imo.

    Re: Should I feel guilty?

Sharepoint rocks. It's not the best thing since sliced bread, but it's a very handy piece of software.

We've upgraded to the latest "internal" version and we're planning on writing our external agent site based on the "external" version of Sharepoint.

Manging/sharing docs, notifications/alerts and many other things are just too damn easy to do in Sharepoint. My only worry with it is just like any out-of-the-box software, it could be restrictive.

    Re: Should I feel guilty?

I wouldn't feel guilty, especially if you've offered to teach and no one's willing to learn. They've basically turned you into an indispensable employee simply because they're not willing to learn a simple computer program. That's called job security, my friend.
