Fremont Bergan took on 3rd ranked Mead tonight

Mead was 19-2 with both losses coming to bigger schools in close games. Mead has a big team with 2 offensive linemen on the front line and one coming off the bench. You could tell they were not used to losing and there faces showed it as Bergan ran out to a 41-14 half time score and won 65-40. Mead tried to run with Bergan in the 1st half and then ran a very slow deliberate offence in the 2nd half. The Bergan coach started clearing the bench with 4 minutes to go in the game. Wes Eikmeier had 20 in the 1st half on 7-10 shooting and 2 3's, he only took 5 shoots, making 3, in the 2nd half ending with 26 points. He had 6 assist in the 2nd half, I did not keep track in the 1st half.

Thanks for the update. Was Mead ranked 3rd in the class or the state?

    "Eikmeier, Fremont Bergan blast Mead"

is the headline from Omaha World Herald this morning, nice write up.

Quotes from the opposing coach. Make sure and read the last line.

"Quinn said the defensive strategy against a Bergan offense that averages 78 points per game included denying the ball to Eikmeier and Brian Liekhaus. That plan worked on Liekhaus, who was 2 for 7 from the field and scored five points. Eikmeier picked up the slack by making 10 of 15 field goals and 5 of 6 free throws.

"We had hoped that we might be able to play some denial stuff on Eikmeier and Liekhaus, then let everyone else play man in the gaps and soften up on their other players," Quinn said. "But Eikmeier is so good it takes two and sometimes three guys to stop him from getting to the basket."
