    Tommy from DSM on Cotlar

Sort of political topic I guess but we all know who Tommy is and it was a sports call-in show... Cotlar was doing What's Your Beef? this morning and Tommy calls in about the Obama rally yesterday. I didn't see it but apparently Michelle Obama said something along the lines about how she can finally now be proud to be an American. Tommy says "I don't know where they heck she's been lately but I've always been proud to be an American!"

    Classic Tommy!

Tommy also called Jon Miller yesterday and said the Cards catcher-Molina was the best catcher in the MLB. I got a chuckle out of that.

I think Molina is the best catcher in the MLB. He is without a doubt the best defensive catcher in the MLB, and he hit .285 last year. It can't hurt that Albert Pujols is his hitting mentor.

I'd take Joe Mauer over him:) He was hurt a lot of last year, but before that he became the first catcher ever to win the batting title. That's outstanding to me.

I wouldn't find that funny. Like has already been said, he is the best defensive catcher in the league, and a decent hitter. I'd take a strong defensive catcher over one with better hitting stats.

He's also a very good defensive catcher as well.

Re: Tommy from DSM on Cotlar

I heard the Michelle Obama quote, but not Tommy. I'm sure it's just your typical "bone-headed" mis-statement by a candidate or their representative.

However, there are really, really people who are not proud of being an American for one reason or another. I pity them, having to live in a country they feel has let them down enough to feel ashamed of.

Re: Tommy from DSM on Cotlar

Tommy is the master of taking something that has some basis in truth, and putting a superlative to it to make it ridiculous.

Not sure if Tommy has said any of these, but I would not be surprised to hear it from him:

Point: Drake is a very good team and having a great season.
Tommy's interpretation: Drake may be the best team ever fielded in the state of Iowa's history.

Point: Todd Lickliter has done a good job given the talent level on his team.
Tommy's interpretation: Todd Lickliter should be national coach of the year.

I don't know if I would call that classic Tommy because its a pretty good point. For someone like her to say she is finally proud to be an American was somewhat offensive.

Even us Cardinal fans around here know the redbirds are in trouble this year but we also know it's not going to be the cubs year this year either.

These are Gary Dolphin-type interpretations, too. Every time a Hawkeye football defender makes a good play..."That's an all-American play."

Molina is ok, but I'd have to go with either Mauer or last year's starting catcher for the NL in the All-Star Game, Russell Martin.
