    Hockey Jersey's

Why do College Bands wear "Hockey Jerseys"....?

Some schools without even a Hockey program wear them. I have never been a jersey wearer as a fan, but even when UND came to play ISU in basketball this year, our Sioux fans were draped in Hockey Jerseys, at a basketball game.

I'm not the fashion police, but should not jerseys match the sport...?

    Just a question....

    Re: Hockey Jersey's

I agree with fans wearing the appropriate jersey for the most part. Although, I don't mind the whole band thing. Although I really don't like our hockey jerseys. We had some kick butt ones when I was in college. These don't look right for some reason.

    Re: Hockey Jersey's

    Because they look awesome.

We get compliments at tournaments from other band members and directors on the look of our pep band, and the members of the Basketball bands have voted multiple times over the last couple of years to continue wearing these jerseys.

Now, with the logo change, it is yet to be seen what we'll look like in Marching Band OR Pep Band, since the logo we have on the front of our overlays has the same logo as the hockey jerseys, which may need to be changed.

    Re: Hockey Jersey's

Would you rather the band wear sweater-vests? Because that is the next most common option for pep band uniforms. I like the hockey jersey option a lot better!

Yeah, right. You mean like these?

    (Yes, they actually wore these)

I'll stick to the jerseys, thanks.

    Re: Hockey Jersey's

Slightly off topic....a couple months ago I was talking to a friend who is in both the marching and pep bands, and he said that due to financial constraints, the bands will not have the new logo on their uniforms for at least one year; he said they'll have the same uniforms w/ 'old' logo until they can get the money for the new ones. Is this still the case?

I was also (slightly) surprised to hear that the band/music dept has to PAY the athletic dept for the seats in the endzone, or the athletic dept would turn around and sell those seats to the public. Not too surprised the athletic dept does this, they take money any legal way possible, but still...

The uniform deal, most likely still true.

The seats thing...where did you hear that? As far as I know, our seats are provided to us wherever Athletics feels like putting us (like why we end up in bleachers instead of seats that are normally sold). When we go to ROAD games, our seats are taken out of the normal allotment to the school, but from how JP talks to us, I was under the impression that the Athletic Dept. foots the bill. There's no way the Music department can afford to buy seats at every HOME game for over 300 people.

    Re: Hockey Jersey's

That's what I was thinking when my friend told me, probably has things mixed up in his head. I didn't think the Athletic Dept would do that...but you never know.

I am on the back of the float in that picture.....(not pictured)
I still have that shirt somewhere.......the polo we used the year before I had signed by Willoughby, Cato, Edwards and Halloway during the NCAA Tournament run that year.

You know we've beat the FB/BB uniform topic to death when we start discussing band uniforms. :)

    Re: Hockey Jersey's

I for one like the hockey unis.

For "ability to wear out in public and not look like a tool"-ness, hockey & football jerseys are about it .... baseball follows in the next teir, then distantly Nascar ... and way in back is basketball.

I love basketball, I ref it, watch it, and play it all the time ... but the lack of sleeves make the jerseys hard to wear in even the most casual non-athletic setting.
