I hadn't seen this yet, but El Jefe has finally, allegedly stepped down.
I'm wondering if we will see a "soft landing", or will Cuba eventually come apart?
And, if Cuba comes apart, it will be interesting to see how power and property rights work out.
Do you give property back to the pre-Castro folks, who arguably attained their property through ill-gotten means, or do you let the communists, who seized the property through violent overthrow, keep it? Either way it plays out, it will be an interesting deal.
A lot of people think that Castro's brother is very different and will usher in new reforms and democracy will reign soon in Cuba. I highly doubt that, but it would be a good thing to at least get communism out of there.
Your shopping cart, like your impoverished soul, is empty.
I'm hopeful there will be relatively smooth transition. Obviously the transition has already started, and at the ripe old age of 76 it seems unlikely that R. Castro is planning to be in power very long. Hopefully he is sincere about real reform.
