    WHO 13 news HD?

I thought WHO 10:00 news was supposed to be in HD starting tonight, but it's not. Am I mistaken in thinking this? Not a big deal, after all it's just the news and I get all my news from Cyclone Fanatic, but still... First they screw up the aspect ratio on Knight Rider last night, and now the news is still in **gasp** Standard Definition?!?!?

Looks like standard def to me.

And they just hyped up that they were in HD. HAH!

    Re: WHO 13 news HD?

That is just funny. They said to turn it to 13-1 for HD newscast, the future of TV, and it is in standard def.

Of course maybe they are going to flip it to HD once that story aires.

    Re: WHO 13 news HD?

Just went HD. And now, WHO-TV news is my favorite news cast being HD.

    Re: WHO 13 news HD?

The most exciting part isn't the newscast. The bigger deal for me is now that they are HD, when there is a weather alert and they have to put on a scroll it won't drop the programming to standard def.

    Re: WHO 13 news HD?

Very nice. Took me awhile to catch on because the tv here in my computer room is the little 13" that I got for Christmas 15 years ago... I had to walk over to my bedroom to check the HD. Congratulations WHO, you have gained a new 10:00 news viewer from KCCI. As if the MEGA DOPPLER wasn't enough! Although I see the weather has switched back to SD...

    Re: WHO 13 news HD?

Ed Wilson doesn't appear to be in HD. Unless they're using 4:3 ratio for their HD picture, which I didn't think was possible.

They were only doing a portion of the news tonight in HD.

Pretty lame if that's the case. How tough can it be to outfit a place like that with HD cameras and have them going throughout the broadcast?

They are big teases over there at WHO. If they have the capability to broadcast in HD I don't understand why they're not doing it exclusively from now on. I guess that would be WAY too easy.

    Re: WHO 13 news HD?

That was what I was thinking too. I bought into the hype of the promos and watched their newscast. I actually wonder if the studio shots weren't live, but were taped around the package they ran and the anchors just wore the same clothes. otherwise, why wouldn't they just do the whole newscast in HD? They probably only had the one HD camera to shoot the whole segment. It is promising that this will be coming very soon. Now, they just have to make the HD switch soon so this doesn't look like some weak sauce publicity stunt.

I believed in Gene Chizik and all I got was this lousy limited-edition commemorative coin.

4:3 is indeed possible at every resolution in HD.

It takes a LOT more than just HD cameras to move a broadcast to HD. You have to have pretty much all of your production equipment upgraded as well. There's really quite a lot to it. If it was easy or cheap, everyone would be doing it by now.

Agreed, this is becoming very lame by channel 13.
