    remembering Harry Carey

They are playing old games called by Harry on Comcast, directv channel 640. Really takes me back to hear him call a game again. Cant beat Harry and Stoney calling a day game at Wrigley.

SHowing a game against the Phillies against Schilling. Harry spent the whole top of the 2nd reading the names of every person that contibutes to the broadcast, from the camera men to anyone else that noone has ever heard of, , but then mentions how people normally dont do that, and rambles on about this and that like we all miss.

They are also playing some of his infamous bloopers/bad calls before and after the commercials.

    Re: remembering Harry Carey

I am watching this as well. GREAT stuff. 1997 was one of the seasons I went to a ton of games as I was living in Chicago at the time.

Hearing Harry really takes me back though to when I was a young kid sitting at home in summer time.

    Re: remembering Harry Carey

Great to hear Harry say "MICKY MORANDINI". Couldve done without Tom Arnold and him mentioning the Hawks "great" football season.

Harry is the main reason i am a Cubs fan today. Him and The Hawk, Gracie and Ryno. Never cared for Sosa. Or as Harry would say "Schammy Schoschia".

    Re: remembering Harry Carey

It occurs to me as I watch this that Harry was only a few months away from his death during this broadcast and I still find him as interesting to listen to as I always did. A true American Legend in my opinion. No one did it better than Harry and Steve Stone and most likely no one ever will.

    Re: remembering Harry Carey

Harry was brutal. Thank goodness for Steve Stone keeping things on track. Harry was good for a laugh once in a while, but even then it wasn't intentional. Perhaps he was good before my time but it was like a sideshow the last decade...

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.

    Re: remembering Harry Carey

But people didnt listen to Harry for his baseball knowledge, they listened to be entertained. Stoney did a great job of keeping Harry on track.

Good thing Harry isnt around today to butcher all of the Latino players names of today. Back then there were about 20% of what there are today in MLB.

I don't get Comcast but my two Chihuahuas Harry and Caray would love to see it!

    Re: remembering Harry Carey

Damn, wish I had seen this thread last night.

Ever see the games when he's probably good and snookered up and starts pronouncing names backwards? "Hey Stevie, what's Lenny Dykstra spelled backwards sound like?"

    Re: remembering Harry Carey

I only watched Cubs games when they were playing the Pirates.

Here's my favorite Harry-Steve excahnge. It's not word for word but it's pretty close.

The camera, like it often did, focuses in on someone or something between innings after a commercial break. This time they focused in on a young couple with a child no more than 3 or 4 years old.

Steve: "Isn't that great. A young family enjoying themselves at a ballgame."

Harry: "Steve, do you think that we've ever caught a man with the wrong woman on TV?"

    Steve has no response.

Harry: "Have you ever been named in a paternity lawsuit?"

I just started laughing when I heard that.
