    Another look at Mac's record

I wanted to take another look at Macís record, with some projected #ís. If you take out the wins against 1-AA teams, and only factor in Macís wins against teams that are actually division 1Ö well it gets ugly. Since Macís breakout 9-3 season, it hasnít exactly been a cakewalk against D-1 schools.

Letís also assume that ISU goes 6-6 this year. Letís face it that might be generous.

Taking out the wins over 1-AA schools, here are the records.

    2006 Ė 5-6 (3-5)
    2005 Ė 6-5 (4-4)
    2004 Ė 6-5 (4-4)
    2003 Ė 1-10 (0-8)
    2002 Ė 6-7 (4-4)
    2001 Ė 6-5 (4-4)

    Total Ė 30-38 (19-29)

Iíve heard people say that his record is badly skewed from the early losses he took while rebuilding the program. Letís face it, his record still isnít great without them factored in, even if you count the 1-AA wins. Once again, Iím not calling for Mac to be fired, because I donít believe thatís my place. I honestly donít think weíd be that much better off without him. I just donít think weíve quite turned the corner that some would have us believe, espcially if we go 5-7 overall this year.

Re: Another look at Mac's record

Really puts things in perspective. Here is what I say - give Cotton his papers at the end of this year and bring in a new O-Coordinator. Then give McC another 1 or maybe 2 - if things don't change, then make a full change. Not saying this is not on Dan, but the offense has been absolutely horrid with Cotton running it.

Re: Another look at Mac's record

I’ve heard people say that his record is badly skewed from the early losses he took while rebuilding the program. Let’s face it, his record still isn’t great without them factored in, even if you count the 1-AA wins. Once again, I’m not calling for Mac to be fired, because I don’t believe that’s my place. I honestly don’t think we’d be that much better off without him. I just don’t think we’ve quite turned the corner that some would have us believe, espcially if we go 5-7 overall this year.

I'll call for it then...FIRE HIM! There will be Meyer and Blythe coming back next year for the offense and everything else will be rebuilding for that side of the ball. Those two alone should be good enough to put points on the board. Also Scales will be playing along with Sumrall. For the defense should be about the same minus Curvey, Jackson, and Moorehead, so ISU will have to depend on the defense to keep them in games. The D should be good enough to do that i would think. Overall the team should be good enough next year to go 6-6. So following the end of this sad and sorry year ISU should fire coach Mac. So that way the new coach has a little to work with and not be completely pathetic and ISU will still be competive. Hopefully ISU fans and alumni won't have to go through another 12 years of rebuilding or building up for that fact. Anybody else think the same?

Re: Another look at Mac's record

Aren't we past the point of giving him another pass just because he gets a new coordinator or two?

Then, we'll hear the excuses of "new system" when things go predictably bad. Just give them time to implement the new system.

This has been going on for over a decade. Mac hired Cotton because he thought he could do the job. Maybe Mac isn't that good at evaluating coaching talent.
