Maybe we're just not that good?

Okay maybe I'm saying this to make this season easier to swallow but....

Coaching debate aside maybe our team just isn't as good as we thought or hoped. Why do I think this?

    - Defense: We just plain struggle to stop teams when we need to. Regardless of what position the offense leaves them in the opposing team just has a heyday passing against us.

    - Meyer: I really want to like this guy but I have yet to see why he got all the preseason accolades he did. Many times we've watched as he's looked to his first option and then dashes out of bounds. We've seen very little of his running ability and the ability to make guy's miss.

    - Losses and/or bad wins: We barely beat UNI. That should NEVER happen. If we want to compete in the Big 12 this game should be a gimme no matter what UNI does in IAA. We wizzed a winnable game down our leg against an overrated Iowa squad who anybody with a passing game should light up their secondary. Overtime needed to beat Toledo and UNLV.

During preseason it seemed to be a race between us and Nebraska for the North but it's clear now ISU has an incredibly tough road to hoe to even make a crappy bowl game.

Here's to hoping I get proved to be really really wrong.

I came to the same conclusion last night after the game as well. Maybe this team just isn't very good. Our running game is a non-factor, our passing game is predictable, and we can't tackle consistently on defense. .500 seson at best for this year.

    Shreveport on the horizon?
Bret is not the problem. Not Curvy. Not Banks. Not Stevie. Not Blyther. It is one thing that has been overlooked by all. Too many injuries , too young, too many redshirt, too many lightweights - we have no depth to thow into the battle at key times. The poor defense has about 13 players of quality available and the offense has about 16. That is it. Not enough extra horsepower to pull away from the station. The Nebraska fans were also surprised how little are defense players were.

Re: Maybe we're just not that good?

The running game has been a non-factor the past 3 weeks because we've been playing from behind.

The defense giving up early scores and the offense not clicking early puts us in a hole. Few teams are able to consistantly recover from that. We surely can't at this point...

McC can't miss quote, " We are averaging over four yards a pop. That is if we can pop them. The second half has been Katy bar the doors as we had to build up our frquesnt flyer miles through the air. We are on track to be the first team in Big 12 NCAA history to average only 39 yards rushing per game."
