Writer's Strike: What shows are coming back, which aren't

With the guild voting on the new contract and the showrunners (the executive producers who also act has head writers) heading back to work yesterday, the writers strike appears to be winding down. So now begins the process of seeing what shows will be returning and which ones will not. So hers latest from various sources on the web

    ABC

ABC picked up nine shows for next season yesterday

Brothers & Sisters, Desperate Housewives, Dirty Sexy Money, Grey's Anatomy, Lost, Private Practice, Pushing Daises, Samantha Who? & Ugly Betty

On The Fence- Boston Legal, Cashmere Mafia, Eli Stone, Men In Trees, October Road

    Gone- Big Shots, Cavemen, Carpoolers

Most of the shows will go back into production, but the new shows won't air until fall. Except for Desperate Housewives, Grey's Anatomy, & Lost. Expect about 4-5 new episodes from them starting to air in April/May. Lost executive producer Carlton Cuse told Variety that they will be able to do complete a storyline for the season. "We're going to try to make as many as we can and do a good job of finishing out this season", Cuse said. "We'll have to compress some of the storytelling we planed for this season, and that may not be a bad thing. Damon [Lindelhoff, Lost's other showrunner] and I feel like we know how we can finish it off and still make it a really, really great story."

    CBS

Picked up for next year: All three flavors of the CSI franchise, NCIS, Without A Trace, Cold Case, Criminal Minds, Ghost Whisperer, Moonlight, Two and a Half Men, How I Met Your Mother, & The Big Bang Theory

On the Bubble- Jericho, Shark, The Unit, The New Adventures of Old Christine, Rules Of Engagement,

    Done- Cane

Moonlight will probably be pulled back until next fall, for everything else expect about 4-7 new episodes with the comedies having new ones by mid-March and the dramas by April.

    Fox

The big news is no 24 until 2009. Fox decided not to try and force a full season at this late date.

Almost all of the shows will be back except for Back To You, Bones, Prison Break & Terminator: The Sara Conner Cnronicles all of which are on the bubble.

Fox plans to extend its season by either airing into June or starting early in August.

    NBC

Coming Back: 30 Rock, Chuck, E.R., Heros, Life, My Name Is Earl, The Office, All three flavors of Law & Order

On The Bubble- Friday Night Lights, Medium, Las Vegas

    Done- The Bionic Woman, Journeyman

Expect about 5-10 episodes of 30 Rock, My Name Is Earl, & The Office starting in April. Scrubs is an interesting case since this is it's last season, NBC and show creator are negotiating how many more will be done, but they will either air on NBC, ABC (since ABC's production company makes the show) or be released direct to DVD. NBC is obligated to make more episodes of ER, so expect about 4-6 more, but after that they are serious negotiations for next year. Chuck and Heros are both probably going to take the summer off and regroup, so don't expect them until after the Olympics at the earliest. NBC really wants to bring back Friday Night Lights, but are looking to possibly move it to one of their cable networks (USA or Bravo). Also one story is that ESPN is looking into the possibility of picking it up if NBC cancels it.

    CW

Everything is back except for Girlfriends & Life is Wild.

Expect about 5-6 episodes each of the dramas, about 8-9 more episodes of The Game. Aliens In America & Everybody Hates Chris are all in the can.

And on one sad, Friday Night Smackdown has been cancelled. But there are negotiations going on with USA, Fox & My Network TV, so expect it to be back

ABC better not get rid of Boston Legal. Denny Crane is my hero.

Also Rule of Engagement is a funny show, needs to stay

Wow....looking at the list of shows like that really makes you realize how crappy network TV is. The only good show on the list "Carpoolers" is no more.

Re: Writer's Strike: What shows are coming back, which are'nt

I'm glad Big Bang Theory is coming back. VERY disappointed to see Rules of Engagement, New Adventures of Old Christine and October Road on the fence. I think rules of engagement just needs to replace Oliver Hudsons character and it would be the best sit com on TV.

Re: Writer's Strike: What shows are coming back, which are'nt

Why do they want to get rid of Sara Connor the terminator chronicles, Journeyman, The Unit, and Friday Night Lights? I really enjoy those shows. I thought Journeyman was getting good ratings to.

Journeyman is a great show. It's sad to think of all the schlock that is on while this show won't be back...

Nothing to see here mods. Keep moving.

I liked the whole cannibal-religious cult-serial killer story line they had going this year on Bones. Hope they finish that storyline out.

I knew Journeyman was probably gone. That still sucks. It was a good show.

There are a lot of crappy ones that are gone.

I hope they do the right thing with Scrubs.

    Carpoolers, Journeyman =(

For the love of God please cut back a CSI and some reality shows. Is it really necessary to have multiples of the same thing, but cancel anything original?

Re: Writer's Strike: What shows are coming back, which are'nt

Glad to see Chuck is coming back. That show is awesome and has some of the hottest women of TV. Old Christine is a good show that I hope comes back. As far as scrubs, I'm not getting my hopes up on NBC airing the final episodes. NBC has tried to kill that show since its first season. It will be on DVD IMO.

Thank god The Office will be back on soon. I need something to distract me from my pathetic life.

Certainly hope Friday Night Lights makes the cut - really enjoy that show. I'd venture to guess it's ratings are due to it being on Friday night.

CSI Classic is the only one they should keep, just keep killing people in Vegas, Miami sucks.

I was kinda getting into the Sara Conner ones

Yeah, but before it was on Tuesdays, and that didn't fit the show.

Not trying to be an *** here, but what do you like about that show? I am big fan of the movies but I got like 5 mins into the first episode and had to either turn it off or go get some crackers to go with all of the cheese on the screen.
