Can anyone else believe that the Rag does not make one mention of the blown call on the Flynn touchdown? If you didn't see the game, you wouldn't know it ever happened. I believe that that call was a bigger turning point than the Blythe pass interference call. All the rag talks about it to not blame the refs as the Blythe call is a judgment call and could be called on him every play, I agree, it is a judgment call that I didn't agree with but that can't be changed. The Flynn touchdown was not judgment as it is fact that he was in-bounds as noted by everyone at the game and the announcers on ABC. For the Rag no to make any mention of this is an atrocity.
Did you read Keeler yet? He mentions it. It is a huge rant telling Iowa State fans that they can't complain about officiating. I wish I could find the rant that he had after the Outback Bowl last year. He had a very different tune then, if I recall correctly.
No one is saying that the Cyclones outplayed Nebraska and very few if any are saying that the refs are the sole reason ISU lost the game. But for Keeler to say so definitively that he is right - that Flynn was bobbling the ball and that Blythe committed "third-degree assault" - and that Iowa State fans are wrong is truly asinine.
Why are we not supposed to discuss our perception of the game while he is paid to do just that? He is a columnist; he is not the gospel voice of judgement when it comes to officiating.
I couldn't believe the Flynn TD wasn't mentioned in the game article either. I actually went back and reread because I knew I had to have missed it. You don't think a play that looked like a TD to everyone that saw it but wasn't reviewed might warrant a mention?
The Blythe call was iffy in my mind but he does push the envelope quite a bit so it didn't surprise me. However, to say that Flynn was bobbling the ball was a joke. He didn't bobble it at all and caught the ball right in on his body. I watched every time to see if the ball was "bobbled" and there ain't no way! At the VERY LEAST stop the game and look at it again. Why is college football so afraid to review plays? What's the point of having it if you can't use it?
Normally I like Keeler...This was a colunm with no effort looking into the situations. Although I agree Nebraska out-played us, taking 14 points away from us makes a big difference, especially when you lose by 14.
