    What is going right

I think we know the things our team is lacking, namely guard play and outside shooting. But there are some things that are going well.

    1. At times our team can play absolute lock down defense. I really think we will see this more and more consistently as our guards get stronger. There were times against Texas when I thought, wow, they are just smothering. Now it just needs to be a all the time against any opponent type of deal.

    2. Alex Thompson has really eased allot of my concerns about our post game next season. He is right now, in my opinion, the best passer on the team, and is without a doubt our best post defender. We need him to keep getting better to get his confidence up for next year. He has even shown some nice post moves, just to keep the defense honest.

    3. Haluska hitting some shots. I would like to see us run a couple plays to get him some looks. It seems like most of his shots are coming off the dribble. Lets get him some picks so he gets some wide open looks.

    4. While Craig has hit the frosh wall, Diante seems to be stepping up. Every game he looks more and more confident running the offense. Where I have been most impressed though is his defense. With his length he can be very disruptive to the other team.

    5. The offense is looking better, at times. You can see the potential is there, once our guards get a bit stronger with the ball. Way too inconsistent, but it looks like we are at least running an offense now.

    Re: What is going right

One positive I've seen lately is our bench play stepping up. AT, Haluska, Cam Lee(when he plays, which should be more often IMO) and Diante are all contributing for the first time all year. Earlier in the year we could have desperately used these guys to step up but better late than never.

    Re: What is going right

Diante is really improving. He actually had 7 assists against texas, and he didn't even start. Craig will be great someday too, it just takes patience. AT has continued to improve, as the rust has worn off. He is definitely getting better.

I hadn't seen the stats but I knew Diante had alot of assists. Watching the highlights on the McD show it seemed like every decent looking play they showed was set up by Diante.

    Re: What is going right

I think the major thing that Diante has improved is recognizing when to take it all the way to the hole and when to dish. He has drawn ALOT of fouls this year and is now getting better at finishing. It kind of goes hand in hand, the defenders have to respect the pass, opening up chances for him to get to the rack as well...

    Re: What is going right

I think McDermott will turn things around, but I think he made a strategic mistake at the end of regulation with the game tied 62-62. ISU let Augustine take the clock all the way down and we were (somewhat) fortunate that Texas missed the final shot. I think we should have put Cam Lee and Garrett in there to pressure their guards on that final possession. Force them to take an early shot or possible create a turnover. Instead, McDermott played for overtime and we got killed. We should have tried to win the game in regulation. It would have been a gamble, but I didn't like our chances at all once the game went to OT.

I think they played it right. They didnt get a good look at the basket. If you press them too much you may miss and allow an easy basket or foul.

AT has been a decent back up center, but he's going to have to improve an awful lot if we're going to avoid a big drop off in the middle when Jiri leaves. We need to find a good juco center for next year to help replace Jiri.

Hopefully Brackins can pick up the slack and score like Jiri does. He will be stronger, the staff will know what he needs to work on. He has the talent and skills.

Typically I would agree, but we have not been very good at forcing opponent turnovers this year. Of course it might have turned out differently, but we'll never know.

What is the saying? You play for OT at home, play for the win on the road? Maybe Greg was just doing what he thought would give us the best chance to win against a superior opponent.

    Re: What is going right

Agree on Brackins but we really need another big body in the rotation for next year. CJ just isn't big enough to be a back-up center and it will take an awfully mature freshman big man to help next year.

DG is playing much better... raises the question, do we need tyrone appleton now that DG is looking better and we have buckley coming in... should we use that sholly on a juco big?

I was thinking the same thing. We will have a plethora of option at guard next year, but we might need some help on the inside.
