What counts as a "BIG" these days?

We are all interested in our current players' development and who will bethe joining team in the future. I agree that we need help inside. In fact, I think we need help at every position( our record kinda backs me up on this). Our current guys have some ability in the paint. Only time will tell how good they become. As for recruiting future players, everyone has their own opinion about who and what we should look for. There is a lot of talk about getting "BIGS". But what is a BIG? Can a guy 6'7" be a big if he is strong enough or athletic enough? Is a BIG a center, or can he be a forward? Does coaching style or team make-up define who the BIGS are? Is it height, or weight, or ability, or heart, or a combination or all or some of these and other factors? Evidently, we need "BIGS", and "Floor Generals"(a can of worms for another thread) to distribute the ball. So what is a BIG in college ball today?

Re: What counts as a "BIG" these days?

to me a "big" is someone who can play inside, and rebound. regardless if hes 6'6" playing SF or PF or if he's 7'2" like hibbert or thabeet. and i think we have some good "bigs" for the future... hamilton looks like a solid defender/rebounder, and is a not a center who wants to play outside then in like jiri did for his first 2 seasons... same with clinton mann... he's only 6'7" but if he adds some muscle, he can overcome that height by giving max effort and using strength to wear guys down

Skill and if you want to quantify height I think you need to be at least 6'8" to be effective all season.

I think if we get better guards are current "bigs" will play better because they'll have less pressure on them.
