A Lot of Talented Players Not a Good Team

In all my years of watching ISU, I think this may be the most physically gifted team that I have seen. Both sides of the ball feature outstanding players. Unfortunately, we are not a very good team. Our offense is average at best, while our defense is among the worst in the nation.

I am not sure where we go from here. (Yes Norman I know) It is hard for me to accept that this collection of players is not a better team. Looking at the remaining games, I see at least a loss at OU, a loss to MU, and at least one likely a split with the remaining four teams. (I have a sneaking suspicion that one will be the Buff's only win). Final record 5-7 or 6-6 best case.

How many more games do I have to wait before I repeat last weeks call for a change in the coaching staff?

BTW...it was nice to see Bowen making tackles closer to the line of scrimmage tonight.

Re: A Lot of Talented Players Not a Good Team

I feel your pain. We ten returning starters on offense, you would think we would be an offensive machine. But, with offensive line false starts, QB can't seamingly functioning under pressure, no underneath crossing routes with the receivers, three step drops to quick hit receivers, you would think we have mostly first year starters. Are the guys trying to do to much on their own?

I don't think tonight was Mac's fault however, your right about the wins. We'll be lucky to win two more. And I don't think Pollard will have any choice but to pull the trigger. 5-7 is not going to put anyone in the stands.

I think the fake field goal was a dumb call. Other than that I didn't have an issue with Dan's game mgmt. Dan is responsible for the team and right now our team isn't very good.

The fake wasn't a bad idea, but when NU lined up in normal defense formation, rather than field goal, we really should have audibled out of it, or called a time out or something.

I think it was a bad idea because it was a run play, not a pass play. I think that austin flynn had very little chance getting first down running the ball especially in the normal defense formation

Re: A Lot of Talented Players Not a Good Team

running play with the yardage that we needed didn't make sense. Particularly with the base defense in for NU. Not sure why you don't call a TO and get out of that play when you see a base defense in. Getting that many yards is very unlikely in that situation with a called run.

Unfortunatly, after we get whipped in Norman we'll be 0-3 in the Big XII essentually removing any meaning from the season. Perhaps we'll crawl into another "where's that bowl" but not likely. I love ISU! Why does this always happen!??????

Last week marked the end of the Dan McCarney era at Iowa State. It would take a miracle to turn this season around and to save his job. But stranger things have happened.

Am I in the minority in thinking that we won't get whupped in Norman? I think it will be a close game although I'm not expecting Cyclones to pull out a win either. I think they'll shoot themselves in the foot enough times to give ou the win.

Re: A Lot of Talented Players Not a Good Team

I don''t think we will get beat badly by OU. I don't see us winning, but I would hope we keep it respectable. I am concerned that NU showed that not only is our pass defense atrocious, they exposed our running defense. A healthy Adrian Petersen and an OU team looking to get back on track could be a bad combo. However, I don't see us getting blown out unless we hang our heads and throw in the towel.

Re: A Lot of Talented Players Not a Good Team

Again....5-7 was my prediction at the beginning of the year. I absolutely hate it but its coming closer and closer to being the case.

This team needs some sense of urgency. Where was our hurry-up offense that worked so well against UNI in the 4th quarter? Why can't this coaching staff think outside the box and use the hurry-up earlier in the game, BEFORE we're down by 2 scores? Why can't our defense kick some *** in the first half? Why are they not able to make adjustments before halftime?

If we lose at Oklahoma, that is going to mark the fourth consecutive season that we start conference play 0-3. There's something seriously wrong with that.

Especially with the way they did it last year. Baylor? NU in 2OT's? Missouri?!?
