    Something that cannot continue

Brackins has 3 total boards the last 2 games

In the last 3 games (I didn't look back any further), he is
5-13 from 2, and 2 of 10 from 3. I'm seeing a glimpse of early Jiri in him when Jiri used to want to hang out around the 3 point line. There have been glimpses of him dominating the inside, and then he will disappear for long stretches. I don't know if its because the other guys cannot get it to him or if he is still getting the hang of finding the position he needs to be in.
I am very excited about his upside, and really look forward to seeing him mature. Maybe I have to be more patient.
Is it unfair of fans to really want more from a freshman at this point of the year?

Time to give brackins a break. Hes playing against some MUCH bigger guys. GIve him some time to learn.

It is kind of unfair to wish for a guy to do something when he needs a bigger stronger body to do so... thats offseason stuff.

Just like wanting DG to take it to the whole harder.. well right now he cant.. but he will

Is it a freshmen slump or a sophomore slump that they talk about? Hopefully if he gets it out of the way now, we'll never have to worry about it again.

He will just be limited in what he can do until he gets stronger. I dont personally think it has anything to do with talent, mindset, ability... just size and strength. Look at the size of the posts of KU, TAMU, Texas, KSU.. They are huge and physical. Look at the size of the posts in the games he did well.

I've read folks here that said it well about other players: It just comes down to the empty roster our coach inherited. Guys that wouldn't have to play as many major minutes have to, instead of having the time to train up, bulk up, and get seasoned without the pressure to perform at game time.

That's probably a big part of it. He's probably a guy that should be getting 15, maybe 20 minutes a game, tops. I wouldn't be surprised if he is pushing 30.

    Re: Something that cannot continue

This reason is why I thought it was really important to bring in a juco Big Guy with some beef. Hubalek has been our only real post presence all year and he is gone next year. Brackins will be better, but I just don't think he is a "true" post player.
And if Brackins is our only presence down low, who else will help him? (at least enough to where our program is in the top 4 of the conference.
    Thompson? - Not really - more of a 3/4 guy in a 6-10 body.
C Johnson? - Not really - actually a decent post player, but has issues against bigger players.

I really agree with everyone saying that Craig has not been playing well AT ALL these past couple games but I just have a feeling that its just freshman jitters and I have a feeling that he might sprout next year!.......................I HOPE!

I don't like being critical of any of our players but come on, if you're 6'10", you should be able to get 3-4 boards per game with a little effort, shouldn't you? These aren't the only bad rebounding games he's had.

    Re: Something that cannot continue

Shooting is about working to get good position. Rebounding is about working to get position. Driving the lane is about work to get around your man. Passing inside is about work to pass over under thru your man. You must get more determined and more aggressive. You can look on the court and see who has game faces on. Rashon, BP, Rashon, and Jiri appear to be the most focused. Right now the 12th team will play Texas A&M in the tournament. I do not think Wesley's foot feels quite right yet either. And Texas played great closeup defense in the last 12 minutes. I just hope we do not continue to play 30 feet from the basket until the last 5 seconds. That does not make sense.

I think CB is probably intidmidated by the post play in the Big 12. This is likely a huge step above anything he saw in high school. Secondly, it looks to me like he still has the mindset of a lot of high schoolers, that one contributes primarily to the team by scoring, and since he can't score inside, he's floating to the outside and looking for easier shots.

Time for CB to go back to the simple basics: goal 1) box out his man and keep him off the defensive boards, goal 2) deny his man the ball on defense, goal 3) crash the board on every offensive shot and try to get some easy put back baskets to get into the flow of the game, goal 4) run the offensive, only looking to score from the post position.

Defense and reboudning need to be his priority. Once he gets those going, the offense will come. Start with the basics to start building confidence back.

And, to get on my usual soap box, CB needs to hit a big man camp this summer.

I love Craig, but he really needs to stop fading away all the time when he shoots too. This year will provide the coaches with a year of tape to show him how to be an even better player next year.

    Re: Something that cannot continue

Craig was short on everything he shot today. I think he will be at another level next year, but I will be surprised if he has any big games the remainder of this year. He has hit that wall and usually that takes an offseason to get over.

Sure, can give Craig somewhat of a break - but the kid simply needs to step up. His defense is pretty poor and he's missing a lot of shots - especially the "easy" ones.

I'm not sandbagging him, but he can certainly play much better than he has been. And we're going to need that better play next season.

Probably won't get any better this year. Freshman walls happen to all but the very best of freshman. Haluska, for example, hit a BIG freshman wall here this year. Craig didn't play the many games against this many big bodies last year, it's completely understandable that he's hit a wall. If anyone thinks Craig isn't busting his butt, they're silly.

Next year, with a year under his belt, strength and conditioning Craig will be a dominant player. But sheesh, a freshman post player wearing down in the Big XII season is to be expected.
