    Dykstra?

In all the stories about Wes E, I haven't seen anything reported on Dykstra. Anyone seen him play? I live overseas, so haven't seen any of the recruits, thus have to live off your comments.

My Boss coached against him in AAU, said that he made like 10 threes against him. He said they were suprised that for being the tallest guy on the court he rarely went withing 15 feet of the basket.

    Re: Dykstra?

Have heard a little bit about him. Had a good game against Iowa commit, Brennan Cougil. But so did Brennan.

    Where do you live overseas?

I live and work in Western Iowa, and when I was on the road in the NW corner, I saw a couple highlights from a news broadcast from a Sioux City station. He showed some good footwork and post moves - he's not a lumbering 6'9" kid, which was kind of what I expected. I don't know if he has the range to become like the Stout kid McDermott had at UNI, but I was impressed with the couple highlights I saw.

Sorry, I had kind of skipped over this one - sounds like he may have the range!
His HS coach must have him down low more, or the highlights I saw were just of his made shots (and maybe he missed a bunch of 3's! and those didn't make the highlights!)

    Re: Dykstra?

I'm guessing the small schools don't have the horses to body him up down low so he can dominate down there easier.

Northwest Iowa has some of the best competition in the State for classes 1A thru 3A, and there would be some teams with size to match up with him like the Bishop Heelan kid - Cougall or whatever, & Heelan is a 3A school that they've played.

He will need to Bulk up but at the same age I feel he is better than Holman was.

I'm not sure I like hearing this?!

I cheer for two teams, Iowa State and whoever is playing the hawkeyes.

    Re: Dykstra?

I am not saying he will be better than Homan was, but he is better than Homan as a sophomore in high school. I saw him play with his Rock Valley team this summer and I was impressed with his skill set for his size. Handles the ball well and has some nice touch. He is was not real physical yet but his body type appeared that he would have some mass to him when it is all said and done. Hopefully he continues to improve in high school and is a good player for the clones.

    Re: Dykstra?

I saw him play a few weeks ago. He is very unselfish -a GREAT passer in the game I saw. At least 5 assists. He also had a good dunk in traffic against a very big athletic kid.

His shot is pretty good, he made a 3 and all his free throws. He finished very well, but his rebounding was a weakness IMO. He definitely has the frame to get bigger.

He wasn't very assertive, but he is only a sophomore I had to keep reminding myself. He will be a great team player at ISU though

Johannesburg...but many moons ago I taught high school in that NW Iowa conference, and even did my early teaching experience at his HS.

    Re: Dykstra?

I haven't seen either of them, but here's what I think: When Dykstra gets to Ames, he will be equal to or better than Justin Hamilton at the time, and Hamilton will have had 2 years of Div.I experience/Coaching. Just an opinion, not based on facts.

    Re: Dykstra?

my high school team played their rock valley team in a camp this summer, and he is a solid player. he worked down low a lot against us and only hit 1-2 3's... but yea he really worked over our best big man Gabe Knutson, he's a 6'8" junior, and he's no push over, considering hes averaging 20 ppg and 7 rpg on a 12-3 waukee team, playing against some real tough competition
