For all smokers trying to quit

I started Using Chantix non smoking drug 2 weeks ago. This stuff is freakinsh. I have not had a cigarette in 4 days. I pretty much just stopped. It made the craving go away. I made them taste like crap. It really has worked well. There are some minor side effects to it like vivid dreams. Minor stomach aches when I take it in the morning. I would highley suggest it though. I feel a ton better. I do have a tired feeling since all of the nicotine is now out of my body. It will go away in a week or so I am told.

Re: For all smokers trying to quit

Congrats on 4 days! The first few weeks are the hardest.

After 7.5 years of not smoking, I still have cravings now and again. Especially when I am stressed.

Keep is updated on how everything is going. I've tried quitting several times and have never made it over the hump and I would love to hear about how this works for you!

My wife took that and she was done within a couple weeks. Once in awhile she'd get a craving, but the taste of the cigarette would make her sick to her stomach.

How long did she stay on the drug?

She actually quit after the first cycle. She got to the stage where you double up your dosage. She did that for a week or so and then didn't have any problems. So she went back to one a day and when the prescription ran out she was done. That was May. She hasn't had one since.

Our doctor, a friend of ours, told us that she's had people quit in as few as 4 days and others have to take the whole plan.

    I ditto that.

Someone was just telling me about Chantix. They said when they put a cigarette up to their mouth they gag....I need some of that.

I suppose you have to have your doctor write you out a prescription then?

Yeah. The problem is that not all insurances cover it. Ours didn't. I think we paid $125 for that first cycle. That's why my wife cut back when she was up to two pills a day. It just made it last longer. It seemed to work for her.

From what I've heard the stuff really works, my parents are both pharmacists and after the hospital they work at went completely tobacco free(no smoking on the grounds even) they offered Chantix to all the smokers who worked there if they wanted to. Met with good results overall.

Re: For all smokers trying to quit

Your supposed to go 3 months. Some people go just a month because of the cost. It was $110.00 for me. So I smoked a pak and a half a day which is about $225.00 a month. So for me it actually is saving me $115.00 a month. A lot of people can't afford the up front cost is one of the problems people have dishing out that much money. It is so worth it.

Just saw this on MSNBC and remebered this thread. The article says that there might be an increased risk of depression (and therefore suicide) for people on this drug. If you've never had a history of depression than it should be no big deal, but for those that have battled with it, you should be careful!

Isn't nicotine a stimulant? If so, couldn't the depression be more to do with the fact that a person is quitting smoking instead of an actual side effect of the drug?
