    Fence contractors

We need to get a black chain link fence as soon as it warms up. Anyone know good fence contractors that I should get a quote from (or bad ones I should stay away from calling)?

    Re: Fence contractors

It's really not to bad doing it yourself. I've done prvacy fences before and if you get a couple people going it doesn't take that long. Plus, it savebig $$$$ on labor.

We used american fence in DSM. They did our wood fence about 10 years ago, still holding up pretty well.

Des Moines Steel Fence - Welcome

I have used them numerous times and they have always done a great job.

    Re: Fence contractors

So whats the deal with black chainlink. I thought chainlink was a bad word. In CO, most sub-divisions have banned it in favor of wood and vinyl fencing. My wife and I were looking at houses in Des Moines and we saw many with backyards fenced with black 4' chainlink. We asked our realtor and she told us the black was acceptable in most places. Really? Just because it is black, chainlink is OK? When we get moved, we want to fence our yard for our dog. I was originally thinking 4' vinyl but I may go with the black chainlink instead if it is so widely accepted.

    Re: Fence contractors

We used American Fence last year, and they did very well. They had the best quote over Des Moines Steel Fence. They book up quick though so I would start quotes ASAP

I would think vinyl coated colored chainlink is better looking than traditional gray. We have the gray one and it looks terrible.

I haven't seen it close up. The black isn't just paint? It is actually encased in black vinyl?

    Edit: Sorry about the threadjack.

Same here. The questions that I've been asking myself: Property value-wise, would I be better off with or without the fence? Its ugly but also may be a selling point to people with dogs.

We have a pond right by our back yard, so we can't have a privacy fence. Plus, we don't need one in the area that we live. Black chain link does not rust or get gross, so that is why it is excepted. It kind of blends in.

Well, I planned on removing the chainlink and putting in a wood or vinyl privacy fence around. I think those tend to sell better, but if your house rocks and the chain is the only thing that is iffy, im sure it wont decrease the value any.
