    The Ethics of Bottled Water

Some of the biggest con games currently going are perpetrated by the Bottled Water Boys. Time and time again chemical analysis has revealed nothing more than tap water being the reward for purchasing a brand name spring water. Maybe we should start branding and overpricing vegetables…

Bottled water is a psycho indulgence, and… it is not a benign indulgence. The consumption of bottled water is wasteful and cavelier.

Re: The Ethics of Bottled Water

I'd prefer them to use tap water, I think Ames tap water tastes better than anything in a bottle.

Re: The Ethics of Bottled Water

The problem isn't just with the water itself being a scam but it's also with all of the plastic that gets thrown out and takes up space in the landfills, ect

Re: The Ethics of Bottled Water

Millions of barrels of oil are used every year to make the plastic bottles and transport them from far off places even though the quality is probably the same as the water in your tap.

People that drink bottled water should be publicly hung.

I agree. We should probably throw the bottles at them while they are hanging too.

Re: The Ethics of Bottled Water

i take my old Gatorade Rain bottles (which I am freakin' addicted to, strawberry kiwi and berry oh yeah!) and fill them with the tap water here. is that bad? lol, i know its not, but I use one of those refrigerator purifier things first. Having family in Ames that I visit, I must say you all in Ames have some very good tap water compared with other Iowa cities.

I only drink rain water that I store in a pot I made from clay down by the river.

Sophmore year of high school I had a 1 liter Dasani bottle I'd fill up at the water fountains and drink in class... needless to say I was familiar with where the restroom facilities of my high school were...

I occasionally have bottled water but I rarely use the bottle just once... I generally reuse it until the bottle gets pretty beat up or I no longer have use for it at the time.

Take for example football/basketball games - I'll easily go through a bottle/half at both - sometimes I'd go through more but I won't leave in the middle of the game. Atleast with Basketball it's easier to get to a water fountain during a time out... I probally went through 4-5 bottles of Coke and water vs CU the other night

Re: The Ethics of Bottled Water

Ames water has won the Iowa "Best Water in Iowa" award this year and is in the running to take home the National Title FYI.

Re: The Ethics of Bottled Water

I believe Ames has won the national award a few times. It is good water.

As for the person that said they are addicted to Gatorade Rain, I completely disagree with your assessment. That stuff is disgusting

Ames has good water? That's news to me. Must be bad plumbing in the dorms, because the water I get from there is n-a-s-t-y.

I'm not completely sure, but doesn't the university do something different with their water? i.e. get it from a different place, use different facilities, etc?

Don't confuse hope for a plan.
