The nebr defense is not as good as advertised

Per the omaha paper, two nebr players alluded to one of the problems that caused them to give up almost 600 yards was that the crowd was too loud. Remember this was at Lincoln. I think they have been exposed after the creampuffs they played earlier and are grasping at straws. I don't expect us to match KU's output but we have better talent so let's hope Cotton does the math.

Re: The nebr defense is not as good as advertised

We went in to Texas and played a nationally televised game against a good team and lost 37-14 with some really stupid mental errors costing us points. Nebraska went in to USC and played a nationally televised game against a good team and lost 28-10. If you remove the "big" wins against the weak competition they have played to date, I haven't seen anything more impressive than what ISU is capable of doing. Nebraska may have a better team at this point in the season but I really feel like we can beat them in Ames.

i think if we run the 2-minute offiense effectively we exceed kansas' output.

Was it Nebraska fans that doing the advertising? Were they flouting their Nichols State stats again about the three passes? Sorry, I do not shop at REDMART. I only shop CLONEGET.

Did you watch USC/Nebraska? Booty was running a lot. He made great plays but Nebraska got a lot of pressure on Booty. The Nebraska d-line is the second best we will see and second only to Texas. Not by very much. There secondary, however, does suck.

Had ISU played Nichols State, they woulda somehow found a way to let NSU hang around 'til the waning minutes of the game.

I believe that banking institutions are more dangerous to our liberties than standing armies. If the American people ever allow private banks to control the issue of their currency, first by inflation, then by deflation, the banks and corporations that will grow up around the banks will deprive the people of all property until their children wake-up homeless on the continent their fathers conquered.

Found a great solution to avoid the flu that was going around in Nebraska football squad last week. We need to send them this video so the poor Redville boys are ready to play: http://www.coughsafe.com/media.html
Great rating system in the video. All are sure to learn.

Re: The nebr defense is not as good as advertised

There was a decent OpEd in today's Lincoln paper regarding the defense:

    http://www.journalstar.com/articles/...2186167648.txt

How much of a concern is the Nebraska defense?

I’m guessing the Blackshirts aren’t as bad as they showed in allowing 574 yards to a mediocre Kansas offense led by its backup quarterback. They’re also not as good as the defense that shut out Troy with only 140 yards.

The truth lies somewhere in between. Whatever that truth is, will it be enough to help Nebraska win a Big 12 North title?

We’ve heard the reasons/excuses for Nebraska’s very subpar performance in Saturday night’s 39-32 overtime victory against Kansas.

Some are understandable. Others are tiresome and cause for concern.

Let’s first understand that defensive coordinator Kevin Cosgrove is short-handed with personnel. Against Kansas, the Huskers (who defended a school-record 94 plays) played with four healthy linebackers. Cornerback Cortney Grixby was hobbled by an undisclosed injury.

Then there’s the rest of the secondary. Zach Bowman’s season-ending ACL injury in August crippled this defense much like we’d anticipated. Two receivers were moved to cornerback. One of them also suffered a season-ending knee injury. The other hasn’t yet panned out. Apparently, junior Titus Brothers, described by Cosgrove as “a very hard worker,” isn’t an answer.

Re: The nebr defense is not as good as advertised

Something else too that has been discussed on Husker board i'm a regular on is that for whatever reason, under Callahan, Nebraska has had terrible luck in recruiting safeties.

In the previous 3 years, Nebraska has had verbal commitments from 2 or 3 stud safeties (1 being Oklahoma's Reggie Smith), only to have them bolt at the last minute and currently, one of the starting safeties is a converted RB, Tierre Green, a Solich recruit. All the while, every other defensive posistion has been rebuilt following the Solich experiement. I'm not making excuses for the play of the safeties, just stating fact.

Nebraska has a couple of stud freshmen safeties in Culbert and Thenarse, wether or not they see the field this year, remains to be seen.

DON’T BELIEVE IT: In 16 NCAA statistical categories, the Cyclones rank in the top 50 in only two — they’re seventh in punt returns and 31st in passing offense. They rank 80th or lower in nine categories. Nebraska players aren’t buying it, Taylor said. “You don’t look at what they’re ranked in certain categories,” he said. “You just know they’re going to play their best and it’s going to be a tough contest.”
